Vroom, vroom! Cars & Coffee brought out an incredible lineup of cars, great conversations, and plenty of puppy and kitten love. It was a fantastic day for our animals—and we ended it on a high note with a sweet adoption story: Lola, one of our foster kittens, was adopted by a family from Rio Rancho who couldn’t imagine the drive home without her. She arrived in a cat carrier and rode home in a show car!

Thank you to everyone who stopped by—whether you came for the cars, the coffee, a cuddle, a donation, or to learn more about our work. Your questions about our new clinic, vaccines, spay/neuter services, fostering, and volunteering made for meaningful conversations, and we loved sharing what we do.

Your generosity also powered our Drive for Dogs food and toy drive, filling our supply shed with treats, toys, food, and enrichment items that go straight to the animals in our care.

We’re back in Santa Fe today at PetSmart from 12–3 PM with more puppies and kittens!

Yesterday’s event at Teca Tu kept our offsite team on their toes, and two lucky animals headed off to begin their next adventures. Milo the kitten finally crossed paths with a dedicated cat enthusiast who had been patiently waiting for just the right whiskered companion. Meanwhile, Mikilo charmed a family who had done their homework, weighed their options, and ultimately decided he was exactly the dog they’d been searching for.

The adoption wagon rolls on today! Join us in Santa Fe from 9:00–11:00 a.m. at Kakawa Chocolate House during Cars & Coffee. We’ll be bringing a kitten and a small herd of cattle dog puppies, all hoping their next stop is home.

Four lucky pets packed their bags for forever last Sunday: Brandi claimed her throne immediately, complete with a stuffed unicorn and a pink floral collar fit for royalty. Brothers Gouda and Muenster scored the dream gig: staying together with an adopter who had been hoping for a bonded kitten duo for years. And Montana found exactly what every puppy hopes for—a built-in best friend. His new family already has a Golden Retriever waiting to show him the ropes.

We’ll be back in Santa Fe all weekend:

📍 Friday | Teca Tu @ DeVargas Mall
12–3 PM

📍 Saturday | Cars & Coffee @ Kakawa Chocolate House
9–11 AM

📍 Sunday | PetSmart
12–3 PM

Come meet your next sidekick.

Is anyone missing these dogs?

This morning, we found the black and white dog tied to our fence wearing a shock collar. Just now, a good Samaritan found this blue pittie, who was also wearing a shock collar.

If either of these dogs looks familiar, please contact the shelter as soon as possible. (Please also bring animals when the shelter is open 🙏)

🐾 Our Offsite team is making the Santa Fe rounds this weekend with three adoption events and a whole crew of puppies & kitties lookin’ for love.

Joining us are Derrick, Mikilo, Gunner, Dino, and Trino, a spirited group of 9-week-old Australian Cattle Dog mixes. At just 8–11 pounds now, these little dynamos are expected to grow into 40–50 pound companions with plenty of energy, intelligence, and heart.

Also on the guest list: Macaroni, Noodle, Mac & Cheese, and Spaghetti, a sweet and delightfully goofy group of 4-month-old Chocolate Labrador mixes. Currently 20–25 pounds, they're expected to mature into loyal, fun-loving family dogs in the 40–60 pound range.

Find us this weekend:

📍 Friday, 6/5 | 12–3 PM Teca Tu-A Pawsworthy Pet Emporium

📍 Saturday, 6/6 | 9–11 AM Cars & Coffee at Kakawa Chocolate House

📍 Sunday, 6/7 | 12–3 PM PetSmart

Cue the confetti! We’re thrilled to share that Waggles—now Layla—has been adopted by Penitentiary of New Mexico Deputy Warden Visty Curry through our Fosters in the Pen program in partnership with the New Mexico Corrections Department.

Deputy Warden Curry describes Layla as “calm, sweet, and lovable,” which comes as no surprise to anyone who’s met this little pocket Pittie. (Well maybe the calm part 😂 She earned her original name from her exuberant tail wagging!)

Waggles arrived at Española Humane via a transfer from Magdalena with a tail that never stopped wagging and a love of life big enough to light up every room she entered. What we didn’t know was that beneath all that joy, she was quietly battling two serious tick-borne diseases. Even while receiving treatment, Waggles remained true to herself—greeting everyone with wiggles, smiles, and her trademark optimism. She even managed to earn a “happy tail” injury from wagging so enthusiastically that she split her tail open. (See? She Waggles. 🥹)

Today, thanks to her incarcerated fosters stepping up to give her a space to heal and to learn, she’s healthy, adored…and home. Best of all? She gets to stay in the family and we get to see her!

Thank you to Deputy Warden Curry, the Fosters in the Pen participants, and our Española Humane and New Mexico Corrections Department teams!
