🌟 EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH: CARISSA GRALL!

Some people make a difference in a thousand quiet, meaningful ways. They show up, roll up their sleeves, and make good things even better. That’s Carissa Grall. ❤️

As Española Humane’s Training & Enrichment Coordinator, Carissa leads our Paws in the Pen program at the Penitentiary of New Mexico, where incarcerated handlers and shelter dogs learn, grow, and change lives together. Her enthusiasm and dedication have breathed new life into the program, elevating it to new heights and creating more opportunities for second chances on both sides of the leash.

Her colleagues have plenty of good things to say about the difference she makes:

“Carissa is one of those people who just quietly gets things done. She has taken ownership of our Paws in the Pen program and has really elevated it to a whole new level. She represents Española Humane incredibly well, and I have a tremendous amount of trust in her and the work she does.”

“Carissa has an incredible gift for understanding dogs and helping them become the very best versions of themselves. She goes above and beyond every single day to make sure they get more than training — they get experiences, enrichment, and the chance to simply be dogs. Whether she’s taking them on field trips, bringing them along to community events, or throwing them pool parties, she finds ways to build their confidence, bring out their personalities, and help them shine. She sees what each dog needs to succeed, and she puts her whole heart into making it happen.”

“Carissa is a pleasure to work with. The depth of her caring about both the animals and incarcerated trainers is evident in the work she does. We are lucky to have her overseeing our Paws in the Pen program.”

Carissa understands that second chances can change lives on both sides of the leash. Her compassion for the dogs, her guidance and work with their human trainers, and her commitment to making this program thrive are helping make those second chances possible every single day.

Please join us in celebrating Carissa! We’re so grateful to have her heart, talent, and dedication on our team. Congratulations, Carissa! You’re making a difference in more lives than you know and we are so lucky to have you on our team. ❤️

🚨We need to talk about Bucky.🚨 Because somehow, inexplicably, against all logic and reason, this 50lb bundle of blue-eyed, tiny-eared, professionally trained nonsense is still waiting for a home and his adoption fizzled out. MAKE IT MAKE SENSE. 😭

Bucky is a perfect one year old chap with glacier blue eyes that could launch a thousand ships, ears that look like they were ordered in a size xxs by mistake, and enough joy packed into one fuzzy body to melt the coldest of hearts. He loves people, has lived with children, and greets life like every day is his birthday.

AND THIS BOY HAS A RESUME!

🎓 Graduated from our 8-week, 24/7 Paws in the Pen training program at the Penitentiary of New Mexico: crate/house/leash trained with an impressive dictionary of cues and commands.
🐾 Bright, eager to learn, and ready to keep showing off his new skills.
🏔️ Potential hiking buddy, adventure sidekick, and professional couch cuddler.
💙 Certified heart-stealer.

The only thing Bucky hasn’t mastered? Looking remotely serious in photographs. Sir, you are trying to get adopted, not audition for the cover of National Geographic: Derpy Edition.

So here we are, posting about him AGAIN, because the universe has decided to keep this little-earred legend all to ourselves, and frankly, we’re getting a little too attached. 🫠 Bucky deserves a family to love, adventures to sniff, toys to destroy, and someone who thinks his ridiculous little face with his weird little ears is the greatest thing they’ve ever seen. (Correct answer.)

📣 Please share this post. Tag your husky-loving friend. Send it to your outdoorsy cousin. Text it to that person who keeps saying they’re thinking about getting a dog. DO SOMETHING please 🙏

Bucky is ready. He’s trained. He’s adorable. He’s got the eyes, the ears, and the heart. All he’s missing is you! Apply on our website to schedule a meetup!

Domino is only 3 months old and already a tiny legend at Española Humane. He arrived with a whole litter of homeless babies, but this little gentleman had a problem of his own: one ear was degloved and needed some pretty serious repairs.

Enter: many stitches, several weeks of healing, and a temporary position as Office Kitty, where Domino proceeded to commit grand larceny of the heart. Now he’s medically cleared, his stitches-and-snuggles era is officially behind him, and his ear has healed into the shape of a Pringle potato chip.

Domino has done his time in the office, paid his dues in stitches, and charmed his way into everyone’s affections. But he has one last assignment: find a human who will love him forever, crinkly Pringle ear and all. Domino is ready for adoption. Come get your heart stolen. We warned you. 🖤🐈‍⬛

This little blue-eyed snowball is off to join a busy family, which means there will be plenty of adventures, new friends, and absolutely no shortage of things to keep those puppy paws busy.

We have a feeling this little one is about to become the center of a very happy, very busy universe. Happy tails, sweet baby!
