Ladies and gentlemen, for this year’s StachetoberFest we are going with a Viking theme. We’re also having a throwback party for the retired folks. Pass the word. We want to see a sea of grey and white mustaches glimmering in the Stone gardens.

So what do retired firemen and Vikings have in common? Beards! Whether they keep them or not, it seems every retired guy goes into some sort of facial hair rebellion upon career completion: Long hair, giant mustache, spitter, goatee, man bun, or a beard. Whatever follicular fantasy occupied their dreams for 30 years, it’s lived out at the end. And why not? Beards are lumber-sexual, all you need is a flannel and you’re in.
