Bay de noc great lakes sport fishermen

Bay de noc great lakes sport fishermen "Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sport Fishermen, Inc. is an angling club with many projects to enhance fishing in the bays of green bay.

Dedicated to the improvement of sport fishing opportunities in the Delta County area. Our sports fishing club is very involved with kids’ activities in Delta County all year. We are part of the National Forest Service Camp 7 Kids’ Day in June and have a crew of volunteers that do the cooking and serving of the food at this event. We also are a major contributor for prizes for the event. Gladstone

Kids’ Derby is held in conjunction with our Wal-Mart Bays Classic Walleye Derby. Great prizes and again free lunches are provided. The 4th Saturday in September is National Hunt & Fish Day celebration at the Great Lakes Sport and Recreation Club in Escanaba. The club sets up our fish pond and the kids are lined up to fish all day. We are also a major contributor for all the prizes for this event. The club holds several fishing contests during the year, starting with Early Bird Walleye Derby in June, followed by the . The Bays Classic is in August and the final Walleye Tournament is the Last Chance held in September. The club leases land from Lyme great lakes timberland for our walleye rearing pond which is named the Peterson Pond. We pay for all maintenance and supplies that this pond requires. Fertilizer, a big cost item, is added to the water for plankton growth. When the walleye eggs hatch the very little hatchlings are planted into the pond. Care is taken to monitor the water and test for the proper amount of plankton for the walleye to feed on. Approximately six weeks after planting, the fingerling walleye are netted from the pond and planted in our Bays and other lakes in Delta County. This club is also actively involved with the Michigan DNR Fishery Division, helping them form computer models for planting, netting and egg take in the spring, serving on DNR Committees and advising on sport fishing issues in Delta County. Please spread the word...............Several people have been putting fish carcasses in the grinder of the North Shore Fish Cleaning Station WITHOUT turning it on. They seem to be cleaning their fish elsewhere and then bringing buckets of carcasses to put in the fish cleaning station. The fish cleaning station must be turned on prior to putting the carcasses in there to prevent jamming. Thanks, Kim Peterson, Harbor Master

Our bill to improve fishing in Michigan, HB 5093, will be considered this Wednesday in the House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee. Link to the bill details- https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18xW9WSLPQ/

If passed there, it goes to the House floor for a vote there. We have testified in support of this bill and have pulled together tremendous support from angler organizations and business's. We remain engaged with the committee to get this across the finish line.

Dear Members of the House Natural Resources and Tourism Committee,

House Bill 5093, legislation developed by and for Michigan anglers to enhance and strengthen fishing opportunities across our state, is scheduled for consideration at this week's committee meeting on Wednesday, June 3.

This bill has generated broad support from anglers, conservation advocates, and businesses throughout Michigan—from the Keweenaw Peninsula to Southeast Michigan. I would like to share the attached updated list of supporters, which has now grown to 161 organizations, businesses, individuals and tourist bureaus representing communities across the state. This support continues to grow as we engage with more stakeholders.

The strong and diverse support for HB 5093 reflects its importance to Michigan's outdoor heritage, recreational fishing opportunities, and the local economies that depend on them. We respectfully urge you to support this legislation and vote "yes" to advance HB 5093 to the full House of Representatives for further consideration.

Thank you for your consideration and for your support for improving Michigan’s natural resources for its citizens.

Here are the results from today’s Early Bird Walleye Tournament. There were 28 total teams, which may have been a record for this tournament.

Anglers reported decent fishing with mostly cloudy skies, relatively light wind, and patchy fog. Methods to catch fish ranged from casting to trolling. Anglers reported gradual warming of the water over the course of the last week, with pockets of dirty water holding fish.

The weigh-in was held at the Escanaba Harbor and the award ceremony took place at the Ore House Tavern with Whitefish on Wheels available for anglers to enjoy.

Thanks to our fishing friends for providing gift cards: Bayshore Bait and Hideaway, Bay View Bait & Tackle, L&M Fleet Supply Escanaba, and Blade's Bait and Tackle.

Special thanks to club members Bill Herbst, Scott Marx, Kim Johnson, and Jeff Sierpien for setting up, weighing fish, and tearing down. This event was a success thanks to you guys.

The next club tournament will be the Bays Classic on August 1st.
