Thank you to the ladies of GFWC who volunteered to help Enhance Escanaba today. Our flower pots downtown look amazing thanks to Nick from Cheniers. Also, thank you to members of the Escanaba community and the Enhamce Escanaba board members who planted today. Please take a ride downtown and check out the planters on Ludington Street from the municipal dock up to where the street is closed.

Help Bring a Refrigerated Outdoor Ice Rink to Escanaba!
Your contribution can help bring this rink to life! Our overall goal is $250,000. We have met our
initial goal of raising $100,000, which makes us eligible for Public Spaces, Community Places
grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). This “Go Fund Me”
type grant, using Patronicity, makes us eligible for a $75,000 matching grant after raising
$75,000 for a total of $150,000. This also includes a bonus for our commitment to accessibility
for all.
Preserving Escanaba’s Ice Skating Tradition
Ice skating has long been a cherished winter pastime in Escanaba, from ice shows and speed
skating to neighborhood rinks and family outings. Unfortunately, warmer winters, rising costs,
and budget cuts have made maintaining natural ice rinks nearly impossible.
A refrigerated outdoor rink offers the perfect solution. With modern technology and our winter
climate, this rink could stay frozen even in temperatures up to 50 degrees, providing a reliable
and consistent skating surface for 5 months of the year, from November through March!
Beyond skating, this venue could inspire new winter events and community gatherings, further
enriching our city’s cold-weather offerings.
The Rink at Ludington Park
The proposed portable rink would be located in Ludington Park, south of the tennis court
parking lot. While smaller than a regulation hockey rink, it will be large enough for public
skating, complete with walls like a hockey rink and ice chilled with refrigeration technology.
• Handicap accessible, allowing us to secure additional funding
• Lit at night with city-installed poles for extended use
• Easily removable at the end of the season in April
Let’s get our kids off the screens and onto the ice! Please consider making a contribution to bring
this incredible community project to life.
You can contribute through our page on Patronicity by scanning this QR Code or go to

GFWC Escanaba recognized Jean Chapekis for her membership of 53 years. During that time she has been a Club president, has been awarded both the Woman of Achievement and Ms Federation awards. She has also served on the board for many years. We also recognized Dorothy Zenker, who also has 50 years of service with our Club. Dorothy has also been awarded the MS Federation award. Dorothy is still in Florida so she wasn’t at our meeting today. Thank you ladies.

A few of us from GFWC Escanaba went over to the Webster kindergarten center and read to the kiddos. It was great fun! Not pictured are Mary and Ann who also read to the students that day.

A few of us gathered today at the Bonifas Art center to judge the artwork done by pre-K through 12th grade. The quality of the artwork on display was quite amazing. We have a lot of talented kids in Escanaba. Thank you to all who helped today.

Our charity ball was a huge success. And we are so grateful to the Terrace Bluff Golf Course for providing us with this beautiful venue. Jacquelyn had it decorated to the nines, Pete played lovely background music until right after dinner and Mike the DJ had the place rocking. Thank you for everybody who helped work on this event and to all the attendees and most, especially to the staff at the terrace Bluff Golf Course.

Thanks to this amazing community we have a new location and a fabulous caterer for Charity Ball tomorrow so the show (or in this case the charity fundraiser) will go on! The new location will be at the Terrace Bluff Golf Course. All times and other details remain the same. Please message us with any questions!

We appreciate everyone’s concern about Charity Ball for tomorrow night and we were devastated to hear about the House of Ludington fire. We are working on logistics to see if we can move the location for the event tomorrow night and we’ll post on here once we figure anything out. Otherwise we will be postponing the event until after the holidays. We will let everyone know more via multiple avenues once we have more information available.
