Hikers Jamboree Spotlight: Geology of Rocky Fork & the Appalachians

The mountains have a story to tell, and some of that story is written in stone!

Join geologist, paleontologist, and naturalist Jeremy Stout for an exploration of Rocky Fork’s geology and the ancient history of the Southern Appalachian Mountains.

Jeremy serves as Nature Center Manager at Steele Creek Park and has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Northeast State Community College. His background also includes paleontological research associated with ETSU’s Center of Excellence in Paleontology and the Gray Fossil Site.

With degrees in biology and geology and graduate training in vertebrate paleontology, Jeremy brings a unique perspective to the natural history of our region.

As we follow Rocky Fork, Jeremy will help us discover the geological processes that shaped the mountains, valleys, and waterways surrounding us today.

NRP cleanup on Saturday has changed location.

Volunteers Needed – Trout Sampling on Laurel Fork! 

Join us on Thursday, October 22, as we assist Mark Rine with The Nature Conservancy in conducting trout sampling on Laurel Fork!

This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience with fisheries conservation, learn more about the trout populations in our local streams, and help support important research and monitoring efforts.

🚩South Toe River- Celo NC Gauge: 2.25ft from 2.58ft ( continuing to lower)

🚩Embreeville Gauge: 6.86ft from 8.09ft. ( lower from last post)

🚩Nolichuckey Dam Gauge: 44.75 feet from 41.71ft ( rise from last post)

🚩💦🌀REMINDER: Action Stage is 10feet, Minor Flood Stage is 12feet. The River Forecast Center has forecasted a potential 10ft Crest by 8pm , Sunday night. There are and have been NO Flood Advisories, Watches or Warnings in Greene County.
