Toney’s Story
Anthony "Toney" Davis is a native of East Tennessee. He grew up on the banks of the Nolichucky River. A U.S. Navy veteran, Scout Leader, and ER nurse, he has hiked the Appalachian Trail, the Colorado Trail, and many others. He has paddled the Nolichucky, Colorado, and Gauley Rivers. Toney has literally sailed the sea, rode rivers, and climbed mountains.
During Hurricane Helene, Toney and his wife Anna lost their home. As the floodwaters were rising, Toney was undergoing chemotherapy and fighting cancer. In this dark hour, he decided to form the Nolichucky Restoration Project, a nonprofit dedicated to restoring the Noli and the communities in the valley.
Since its founding, Toney has been the heart of NRP, still battling cancer and toiling to restore what was lost. Under his leadership, the NRP, volunteers, and partners have removed tons of debris from the river and shoreline, planted thousands of trees, and helped neighbors rebuild.
Thanks to everyone that make the NRP possible, and have assisted in the Herculean task of restoring the Noli!
