She was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer on her 40th birthday, and even now, she continues to be proactive about her health and teach others the same. After her cancer journey, she felt there was a sincere need to emotionally support women during this challenging time, so she joined the efforts of the American Cancer Society and chaired the Relay for Life. In 2001, she was chosen as a Hero by Lifetime Network and flown to Los Angeles with her husband to celebrate her continued involvement in the community and her survival. Janet felt through her own experiences that when a woman is diagnosed with cancer, a familys focus changes and the family circle is threatened. In these critical moments, some women have unpredicted needs. From a child's perspective, the caregiver, and core of the family, is being distracted by something over which they have no control. It would not be unusual for the children affected by this to struggle socially, academically and athletically. I Have Wings breast cancer foundation supports Tri-State women of all denominations, ages, and income. We have released the financial burden on already struggling families by supplying much needed prostheses, electric bills, mammograms, food, clothing, wigs, school supplies, haircuts and more. With your support, I Have Wings will continue to promptly provide these things, without a lot of red tape. Because knowledge is critical to the prevention and diagnosis of cancer, I Have Wings reaches out to school systems by educating our youth on breast & testicular cancer.
