📚 Big News, Book Lovers! 📚

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated books for our conservation book drive! We're thrilled to announce that we will be opening our conservation book sale earlier than planned! Join us this Friday, September 4th & Saturday, Saturday, September 5th from 8 AM to 4 PM.

Zoo entry is not required, just look for our tiger-striped door if you're only coming for the sale or coming before the zoo opens to the public at 10am! If you’re visiting the zoo, don’t forget to swing by our classroom for children’s books and our stage for adult titles after you have entered through our front gate.

Here’s what you need to know before you dive in:
📖 All books are by donation. No set prices, just give what you can!
💳 We’ll have a point-of-sale system ready to take both cash and cards.
👜 Remember to bring your own bags or boxes, they’ll come in handy!
📚 Books arrange from kids to adults, we have something for everyone! Perfect for schools, homeschoolers, and all bookworms alike!

It's World Painted Dog Day!

At the Erie Zoo, we proudly participate in SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) programs that help protect endangered species and educate the public on ways to help they can help conservation efforts! The African Painted Dog SAFE program is focused on the species Lycaon pictus. This species has many common names, including African wild dog, African painted dog, cape hunting dog, and painted wolf. The goal of the African Painted Dog SAFE is to increase the impact that AZA institutions have on African painted dog conservation in each of its three regions (West and Central Africa, East Africa, and Southern Africa) by increasing conservation support, raising public awareness of African painted dogs in-situ and ex-situ, and building relationships between AZA institutions and key African painted dog field partners.

Join us on Saturday, September 5th for our Zoo for All event presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield!

Admission will be free all day thanks to our friends at Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield! Event activities will take place from 10am to 2pm along with a conservation book sale and a Last Chance Lagoon goldfish and koi fish intake with no appointment necessary for this day only!

We are looking for some SPOOK-Tacular volunteers ages 14 and older for ZooBOO!

Positions are available for October 15 through 30 with nightly shifts from 5:15-9:15pm.

Training is an important part of the orangutan’s medical care. Their participation allows for stress-free vaccinations, EKG readings, and weight checks.

We work closely and collaborate with other zoos to learn and share the best training techniques. Right now, we are diving into blood pressure and pulse oximetry training and even starting X-ray sessions! 📈❤️

A huge shoutout to our incredible maintenance team, who are modifying the orangutans' bedrooms to add more training ports. This creates a fun and stimulating environment for them!
