Congratulations to JD Mangat and illustrator Tincho Schmidt for the publication of their new book, Tabansi the Tiger And The Joy of One. Incredible work is being done in the heart of the Amazon, in Iquitos, Peru, where our partners at Arca Beta are working with students at the Sachachorro school. These students live along the Itaya River, a tributary of the Amazon River. Through their environmental club, Arca Beta is giving hands-on environmental education to hundreds of students. These kids are the next generation protectors of the Amazon. But they need our help. Arca Beta's GlobalGiving campaign funds the materials students need for learning.

This July, One Voice 4 Change is teaming up with the English Club at Sachachorro School and Arca Beta in Iquitos, Peru, for something truly special. We’ll be teaching English through Songs—blending language, music, culture, and creativity into one joyful learning experience.
And here’s the exciting part: the school now has 33 brand-new computers and internet access, opening doors to global connection, digital learning, and student voices reaching far beyond the classroom.
Music has a way of leveling the playing field—it invites confidence, curiosity, and courage. When students sing, they’re not just learning vocabulary; they’re telling stories, sharing identity, and discovering that their voices matter.
This is what change looks like:

We are excited to share an upcoming project by One Voice 4 Change in collaboration with Arca Beta in Iquitos, Peru: Learning English Through Songs. This project will encourage listening, understanding culture, and collaboration between students and participants in Colorado. Songs will be used as learning tools, using rhythm, storytelling, and emotion to support students with English studies.

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Cesar Adrian Ojeda Flores, teacher and founder of Amazon Youth in Iquitos, Peru. Adrian passed away on January 17th, 2026, from complications after having a stroke. Adrian worked passionately on our Sister City Partnership with Iquitos and traveled with Mayor Chong to Lafayette for the signing of the Sister City Resolution on December 1st, 2025. We are grateful to have spent time with him and to know that his dream of creating a Sister City between Iquitos and Lafayette came true. He was a friend, a colleague, and a passionate advocate for education. He will be dearly missed.
