What is Green Scene Thrift's Free Friday?
While we get lots of fabulous donations, we also get a lot of items that don't meet out standards to put in the store.
Often these items are thrown away because it's the easiest thing to do and there is no "value" in them.
However, we believe there are alternatives. While we do work with several local organizations and businesses in the community that have a need for certain items, there is still a lot left. In an effort to keep these items in use, we created Free Friday to connect those items to those that may be able to use.
It often takes a little extra effort, but it pays off in big ways. We estimate that every month, over 2,000 items are redistributed for reuse during the event instead of going to the landfill.
Free Friday is the 2nd Friday of every month and it’s all FREE! Free items are often things that may need TLC, are outdated, not in high demand, have been in the store too long, or are items we have too much of. These items are great for use, repurposing, repair or parts. Items may include books, movies, trinkets, kitchen items, decor, picture frames, toys, office supplies and more!
PLEASE NOTE: Free Friday can be very crowded. While the pictures are from a previous month, the amount pictured and put out every month is consistent. We do not put out clothing during the event.
All items were generously donated to Green Scene Thrift, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit located in Erie, PA. Our mission is to educate about reuse, recycling, and repurposing in an effort to reduce waste and encourage eco-friendly decisions when shopping and donating items.
We are located at 1301 E. Grandview Blvd. in Erie, PA. Our regular store hours are Tuesday & Thursday from 11am-6 pm and Saturday from 9 am-3 pm.
Free Friday is sponsored by Green Scene Thrift through funds raised in the store.
