How do local businesses help our community?

Local businesses help our community by driving economic growth, funding public services, and building neighborhood character.

Economic Impact
• Creating jobs: Local shops and services hire nearby residents, which lowers local unemployment.
• Keeping money local: For every $100 spent at a small business, about $68 stays in the local economy through wages, supplies, and services.
• Boosting the tax base: Property and sales taxes paid by local businesses fund public libraries and schools, roads, parks, and emergency services.

Community and Culture
• Supporting charities: Many small business owners give back to their community through sponsorship of local fundraisers, food drives, and youth sports teams.
• Shaping local identity: Unique storefronts, cafes, and restaurants give towns and neighborhoods their distinct charm and attract visitors.
• Fostering personal connections: Owners and employees get to know their customers by name, creating a welcoming and tight-knit social fabric.

Our community is shaped by our repeated actions. Small, everyday habits add up.
