🎥💕 Nurturing Hearts Pushes Girls to Purpose—Hear Their Inspiring Stories! 💕

When girls are consistently encouraged, supported, and reminded of their potential, they begin to see beyond their present circumstances and move boldly toward their purpose.

In our new WICU news feature, Taliayah and Shamiya share how Nurturing Hearts, Inc has helped shape their confidence, strengthen their goals, and prepare them for the futures they are now pursuing.

✈️ Taliayah joined Nurturing Hearts as a freshman at Central Tech and remained involved through graduation. Today, she is attending aviation school and pursuing her dream of becoming a pilot—proving that the sky is not the limit; it is only the beginning!

🚒 Shamiya joined Nurturing Hearts in seventh grade and has remained consecutively involved through twelfth grade. Now a senior at Erie High School, she participates in the Kearsarge Fire Department Cadet Program, SkillsUSA, Student Council, Spirit Council, and Upward Bound Math and Science at Penn State Behrend. After graduation, she plans to study criminal justice and continue building a future centered on leadership and service.

Their journeys represent what Nurturing Hearts has worked toward for two decades: helping girls recognize their value, discover their potential, establish meaningful goals, and confidently walk toward their purpose.

Nurturing Hearts provides evidence-based programs and a distinct research-based curriculum created by Founder Shawnta’ Pulliam-Brown that has demonstrated positive, measurable outcomes in the lives of participating girls.

💕 Nurturing Hearts Is Making a Difference—This Is Why We Do What We Do!💕

Today was a full-heart moment for Nurturing Hearts, Inc! We had the opportunity to visit the WICU newsroom with Ashley Bell-Journalist, where two Nurturing Hearts graduates shared how our programs have positively impacted their lives and helped prepare them for successful futures.

✈️ Taliayah joined Nurturing Hearts during her freshman year at Central Tech and remained consecutively involved until she graduated. Today, she is attending aviation school and pursuing her dream of becoming a pilot!

🚒 Shamiya joined Nurturing Hearts in seventh grade and has remained consecutively involved from seventh through twelfth grade. She is now a senior at Erie High School and entering her seventh year in the program.

At Nurturing Hearts, we celebrate the accomplishments of our graduates because their success demonstrates the difference that consistent support, positive guidance, meaningful opportunities, and long-term programming can make in the lives and futures of girls.

For two decades, Nurturing Hearts has provided evidence-based programs, along with a distinct research-based curriculum created by Founder Shawnta’ Pulliam-Brown. The curriculum has been independently evaluated and has demonstrated positive, measurable results in the lives of participating girls.

Judge Christine Rush made history as the first African American judge to serve on any bench in Erie County.

That distinction is significant. Her historic achievement represents breaking barriers, perseverance, leadership, and the courage to step into a space where no African American judge in Erie County had served before her.

Her journey to the bench was not without challenges, but she persevered—and ultimately made history. Today, her achievement provides a powerful example for girls throughout our community of what is possible when they continue moving forward despite the obstacles they may face.

The Nurturing Heart’s History Maker Award recognizes women who are breaking barriers, leading with purpose, making a meaningful impact, and creating examples that allow the next generation of girls to see what is possible for their own lives.

If you’ve ever wondered what can happen when a young girl is encouraged to believe in herself, make positive decisions, keep going, and pursue her dreams… allow us to introduce you to Taliayah Corder, our 2026 Nurturing Heart’s Legacy Alumna!🙌🏽💕

Taliayah is a proud 2014 graduate of the Nurturing Heart’s Girls Empowerment Program, and more than a decade later, she continues to demonstrate exactly why investing in girls matters.

After graduating from Central Tech High School, Taliayah spent seven years caring for others as a personal care aide. She has since celebrated major personal milestones, including marriage, purchasing her first home, and expanding her goals into real estate investing.

But she didn’t stop there! ✈️✨

Today, Taliayah is pursuing one of her biggest dreams—becoming a PILOT! She is currently studying aviation at Fundamental Flights at the Erie International Airport, preparing for a future in the skies. ✈️👩🏽‍✈️

And what makes this moment even more meaningful is what Taliayah says about her Nurturing Heart’s experience. She credits the program with helping her develop confidence, emotional intelligence, sisterhood, and the ability to better understand and manage her emotions. 💗

That is LEGACY. 👑

As we celebrate our 15th Annual Beautiful Girls Workshop and this year’s theme, “Keeping a Promise to Yourself,” Taliayah’s journey beautifully demonstrates what that promise can look like years later.

A HUGE Nurturing Hearts, Inc shout-out to Erie’s very own Kayla McBride on making WNBA HISTORY! 🎉👏🏽🔥

Kayla became the FIRST player in WNBA history to make 10 three-pointers in a single game, while putting up a career-high 43 points! 🏀🔥

What an incredible accomplishment!

Seeing this moment makes this photo even more special to me. I had the honor of participating in Kayla’s basketball camp, representing Nurturing Heart’s and speaking life, encouragement, and empowerment into the young girls who attended.

There is something powerful about our girls being able to see a woman who comes from their own city dream big, work hard, compete at the highest level—and continue to MAKE HISTORY.

Kayla, congratulations! Your accomplishments reach far beyond the basketball court. Every time you break another barrier, you show another little girl from Erie that **where she comes from does not determine how far she can go.💕🙌🏽
