May is Mental Health Awareness Month 💚

We want to wrap it up by reminding everyone that Mental health matters during every stage of pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. Doula support can help families feel seen, heard, informed, and supported throughout their journey.

No mother should have to navigate it alone.

Here at our local Erie Center for Arts & Technology🤗 visit the little free library!

We’re excited for Little Free Library Week, running from May 17–23! This week celebrates the power of Little Free Libraries to spark curiosity, build community, and make books accessible to all. As proud partners, we believe that fostering a love of reading from an early age can transform lives and neighborhoods. Every day this week, we’ll share inspiring stories from our program, like this heartfelt testimony:

“Although it is called a "Little Free Library", its impact is meaningful. It may not reach everyone,
but it is highly valuable to those who already have, or are developing, the habit of reading. Readers truly enjoy it. Every journey begins with a single step, and while our library is small, its location makes it visible and accessible to those who appreciate books.

Making a library available within the health center is especially important for patients who live far from local libraries. This saves them time and mileage. Encouraging reading is one effective way to reduce stress and support cognitive development, and this small resource contributes positively to overall well-being.”

“Donovan Thomas Desrochers built the little lending library for his Eagle Scout Project in 2017. Donovan went into the Army right after high school graduation as a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Specialist. Donovan served in Korea and Texas and was honorably discharged. Donovan died by su***de in August of 2021. It is a pleasure to see his lending library being used at PHN, and it brings me joy to see it every day as I enter the Wayne Offices. Thank you for featuring Donovan's work. I am proud to be his mother and for all that he accomplished in his short life.”

Good Morning! Here's a Sunday reminder from BirthRoot 💗

This work is real for us.

We are not just posting graphics, sharing resources, or talking about maternal health because it sounds good online. We do this because we know what families in our community are carrying every single day!

Some moms are trying to heal while still taking care of everyone else.
Some families are balancing bills, work, childcare, transportation, relationships, stress, and exhaustion all at the same time.
Some parents are smiling on the outside while quietly overwhelmed behind closed doors.

And honestly… a lot of people are just trying their best to make it through the week.

That’s why community matters so much to us.

At BirthRoot, we truly believe pouring into mothers, babies, and families can change generations. When mothers are supported, families are stronger. When families are stronger, communities grow stronger too.

We are from Erie, for Erie. We understand this city because we live here too. We know the challenges, the gaps, the pressure, and the strength that exists in this community.

So if nobody told you this lately:
You are doing better than you think.
You deserve support.
You deserve rest.
You deserve to feel safe, cared for, and heard.
