In 2019, GNDC collaborated with Erie organizers and activists to protest with the Climate Strike. The climate strike szn is in September, but I’m posting this today while outside breathing in some of the most polluted air in the country. Why? Because if you haven’t heard, Canada is on fire - and this year, it’s unprecedented and uncontrollable.
I remember we used to say that Erie, PA would be a safe haven while the climate crisis worsens, but my loved ones back home see yellow, hazy skies and wear masks outside. No where on earth is safe from the irreversible destruction of climate change.
we aren’t doomed, but it sure feels like it.
Keep pushing, or fighting, or reconnecting, or finding new outlets for holding systems, governments, & corporations accountable for mitigating affects & adapting to the crisis.
Championing the GND for communities is the best option, as those most vulnerable are truly centered, with the goal to mobilize every aspect of American society to 100% clean and renewable energy, guarantee living-wage jobs for anyone who needs one, and a just transition for both workers and frontline communities… and more.
Because as Canada is on fire like never before, what makes the news is the oil, gas, and mining industries being put to a halt. Wildfires are the second most expensive disaster in Canada, and it is those fossil fuel industries that are causing the destruction in the first place. We need to move forward, we need the Green New Deal.
Pwr to the ppl ✌🏽
