Founded in 1967, the Era Volunteer Fire Department is dedicated to the protection of life and preservation of property of Era and the surrounding rural area. The 22 volunteer firefighters service over 100 square miles and support other area community fire departments including Valley View, Rosston, Myra, Muenster, Gainesville, Lindsay and Sanger. Currently, Era VFD operates out of one station on 9

Excited to share the good news with you all - Cooke County has been awarded a new Storm Shelter/Safe Room Rebate Grant from FEMA that will be open to all homeowners of Cooke County. The Commissioners Court has approved and signed the award letter today which means it will not be long before our program is available. We ask for patience as we put the finishing touches on our program and we hope to have this ready for launch in the first week of June. Stay tuned for updates and we will ensure that the program launch is communicated across every possible outlet.

In the meantime, this is a good time for those interested in participating in this program to start familiarizing themselves with the eligibility requirements and processes of the program. Our neighbors in Grayson County Emergency Management have already launched their program and you can find many of the same materials on the eligibility requirements as we will have. Go to https://www.co.grayson.tx.us/page/oem.saferoomprogram to get a good idea of what this program will look like and how it will work (but PLEASE DO NOT apply for their program or bother their people over it - their program is only for Grayson County citizens).

Stay tuned and more to follow soon.

Good morning Era folks 🇺🇸

We’re starting to build the song list for this year’s 4th of July pyro musical fireworks show, and we want your input.

Every song is timed and synced with the fireworks, so the right music makes all the difference.

With this year marking 250 years of the United States, we thought it’d be a great way to celebrate by letting the community help pick the soundtrack.

Drop your song suggestions in the comments, patriotic, country, rock, or anything that you think would pair well with an all-out fireworks show. 🎆🎶

Here are a few to get the ideas flowing:

* God Bless the USA – Lee Greenwood
* Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue – Toby Keith
* Firework – Katy Perry
* Party in the U.S.A. – Miley Cyrus
* Born in the U.S.A. – Bruce Springsteen
* America the Beautiful – Ray Charles
* Chicken Fried – Zac Brown Band
* Only in America – Brooks & Dunn

Let’s make this the best one yet.

This is a TEST of the CITY OF GAINESVILLE/COOKE COUNTY emergency notification system as part of the Texas statewide alerting systems drill occurring today.
***No emergency is occurring. No action is required.***

~At 10:15 am, an IPAWS (Integrated Public Alert Warning System) message will be initiated. IPAWS messages should be received without any registration required.
~At 10:30 am, a CodeRED public alerting message will be initiated. Code Red alerts are opt-in only and will only be received if you have enrolled into CodeRED with the City or County, depending on where you reside.

Please comment, share, or drop us an emoji of your choice (please be nice 😀). This will help us know how many people we may potentially reach during an emergency.

**Era Volunteer Fire Department – Public Meeting Notice**

In accordance with the Tax Equity Fiscal Responsibility Act and the Internal Revenue Code, the Era Volunteer Fire Department will hold a public meeting on **November 17, 2025, at 6:00 PM** at the Era Community Center (7033 W FM 922, Era, TX).

We are excited to announce that Era VFD has been awarded a grant from the Texas Forestry Service to purchase a new water tender. As part of the grant process, the truck must be paid in full before we can be reimbursed. The grant will only cover a portion of the total cost . To cover these upfront costs and the balance of the cost, we are seeking a loan.

This meeting is open to all community members. If you are interested in learning more, have questions, or wish to share your thoughts, please join us. Your input is important as we move forward with this project to enhance our emergency services.

Thank you for your continued support!

🚒💦 We Came, We Sprayed, We Conquered! 💦🚒
The Era Volunteer Fire Department rolled into the Gainesville Fire Association’s Depot Day Hose Off Tournament ready to soak the competition, literally! 💧
Between the wild water battles, slippery shoes, and a few surprise showers to the face, we had an absolute blast. Our hose-handling skills were on full display, and let’s just say… we left no one dry and no doubt that we came to play!
Huge shoutout to Gainesville Fire Association for hosting this splash-tastic showdown. We’re already training for next year, with extra towels and waterproof socks. 😄
