Founded in 1967, the Era Volunteer Fire Department is dedicated to the protection of life and preservation of property of Era and the surrounding rural area. The 22 volunteer firefighters service over 100 square miles and support other area community fire departments including Valley View, Rosston, Myra, Muenster, Gainesville, Lindsay and Sanger. Currently, Era VFD operates out of one station on 9

22 with four trucks. The Era Volunteer Fire Department is able to operate by the generous support of the community, which includes their primary fundraiser the Glenn Scott Memorial fish fry held each year in March.

It has already been a busy wildfire season around the county. Help spread the word and protect our communities.

🚨 COOKE COUNTY BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT 🚨

The Cooke County Burn Ban remains in effect until further notice for the unincorporated areas of Cooke County.

The original Burn Ban Order went into effect on August 10, 2026, and was adopted for a period of 90 days. The Cooke County Commissioners Court will periodically review conditions to determine whether circumstances continue to warrant the ban and may take action accordingly.

🔥 OPEN BURNING IS PROHIBITED in accordance with the Burn Ban Order and applicable law.

This includes:
• Burning brush
• Burning yard waste
• Open burning
• Other unauthorized outdoor fires

⚠️ Dry conditions and increased fire danger continue across Cooke County. Please use extreme caution with welding, machinery, vehicles, and other activities capable of producing sparks or heat.

Its official - burn ban in place for the County for at least the next two weeks. Please make sure to abide by the rules listed here and immediately report any observed smoke or fire to 911. Everyone's vigilance will be extremely important to keep wildfires from becoming disasters. Thank you all and stay safe out there.

Yesterday's call started with a hay baler on fire and ended with about 6-8 acres of grass burned before crews could get everything stopped.

With help from Rosston VFD and Valley View VFD, the fire was contained and no structures were threatened.

The last picture is what volunteer firefighting looks like after the smoke clears, dusty boots, sweat-soaked shirts, and a few minutes on the bench trying to cool off before heading home.

Thank you to everyone who answered the call and to our mutual aid partners who always have our backs.
