Have I ever told you the story of the time I almost got fired?
When I was 23 and brand new in my career, my boss called me into his office to discuss a conflict of interest. He’d learned that I was working with a former client—a local pregnancy center—to build a website, when our marketing firm had recently been turned down for a bid on the same project.
With my heart in my throat, I explained that I had approached the client directly. They’d turned down the bid due to lack of funds; the center decided they couldn’t afford a website after all—so I offered to do it myself for free. I apologized to my boss for overstepping—I hadn’t realized how it would look to the company. But I just couldn’t stand the idea that this amazing, desperately-needed organization would be without a web presence to help them reach pregnant women with help... because they couldn’t find an extra few thousand dollars. So, I explained to my boss, I gave my time away for free. (Luckily, he understood the heart behind what I had done, and I didn’t get fired.) 😅
Clearly, I never forgot that incident, and, over the past twenty years, I’ve been blessed to work with over 150 nonprofit organizations—in particular, small Christian ministries. I’ve seen time and time again that, like the pregnancy center I mentioned before, the ministries who need creative support the most are the ones that have little or no budget for those kinds of expenses, and they don’t have the time to learn the “DIY” programs that are constantly recommended to them.
Compounding the issue, it is notoriously difficult for nonprofits to get funding for marketing purposes. Grants are rarely allowed to be used to cover expenses like graphic design, web development, social media management, brand development, or event promotions. Or, if they are allowed, the percentage is capped to keep any significant funding from going toward those purposes.
My nonprofit LimeAid is the solution to both of these problems. LimeAid launches Christian ministries toward their goals by providing access to the expertise of creative professionals without the associated costs, thanks to the generosity of donors and supporters.
Here’s how it works:
🚀Ministries have the “vehicle” to accomplish their mission goals.
🔥Creative pros are the “spark” that can get their vehicle moving.
⛽️Now, we just need “fuel”. Without it, we’re not going anywhere.
That last part is where you come in. Your generosity is the fuel that starts the countdown to launch!
Throughout 2024 and 2025, the LimeAid Creative Network (via my other venture Lime Creative) has invested time and expertise valued at more than $30,000 to help International Athlete’s Abolition Mission (IAAM) to kick off their capital campaign. That campaign has so far raised over $100k for building projects aimed at ending human trafficking and other attacks on human dignity in North Carolina, Uganda, and Kenya. (You can learn more about that partnership at LimeAid.org/project/iaam-capital-campaign/.) LimeAid provided access to capital campaign planning, two custom websites, software research & setup, online donations setup, a Case for Support brochure, and more—at no cost to them. Also this year, we’ve invested nearly 100 hours to help Faithful Give plan, maintain, and grow their social media presence—again, at no cost to them and freeing up their team to focus on other pressing tasks. More about that project at LimeAid.org/project/faithful-give-social-media/.
This Sunday, October 19, the 3-day FaithfulGive.org 2025 fundraising campaign kicks off, and LimeAid is participating as a Kingdom Cause with a goal of raising $5,000.
