The Columbia Basin Foundation is a community foundation supported by a variety of charitable contributions. The foundation is a catalyst for producing relationships based upon compassion, service and integrity. Our relationships are created by:

Friday at the Foundation!

As we reflect on 30 incredible years of generosity, growth, and community impact, Columbia Basin Foundation would like to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to STCU for generously sponsoring our 30th Anniversary Celebration!

Last Sunday, our donors, board members, and staff gathered at Enzo’s to celebrate this remarkable milestone and honor the people who have helped shape our Foundation's story.

Since 1996, CBF has been built upon the kindness, vision, and generosity of individuals, families, organizations, and businesses who share a common belief: that giving back creates stronger, more vibrant communities.

What began 30 years ago with just one fund and $34,000 has blossomed into 165 funds and more than $21 million in managed assets! These numbers represent far more than financial growth. They reflect countless acts of generosity, enduring partnerships, and a shared commitment to making a lasting difference in the communities we call home.

As we celebrate this milestone, our hearts are filled with humility and gratitude. To every donor, volunteer, community partner, and supporter who has been part of our journey, THANK YOU! Your generosity has helped write the first 30 years of our story, and we look forward to all we can accomplish together in the years ahead.

The Columbia Basin Foundation is excited to announce the launch of our Nominate a Fire District/Department Grant Cycle!

Throughout the month of October, we invite community members to nominate a deserving local fire district or department that goes above and beyond in serving and protecting our communities. During the holiday season, CBF will award $1,000 grants to selected fire districts and departments as a token of our appreciation for their dedication and service.

Our local firefighters and first responders answer the call when we need them most, often going above and beyond the call of duty to keep our families, homes, and communities safe. This is our opportunity to recognize their extraordinary commitment and give a little something back!

For many years, the Columbia Basin Foundation has partnered with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Today is a special day that has been set aside to honor and recognize her amazing work to bring books into the hands of children from birth to kindergarten. Please take time to learn about her organization and consider providing a donation to the Columbia Basin Foundation, so we can further this program in the future. Dolly Parton's legacy will live on through this program and we are honored to be a pathway for its continued success. Happy Dolly Parton Day!

Friday at the Foundation:

Two great community events. One meaningful day to make a difference.

On Saturday, September 19, our communities have two opportunities to come together in support of causes that touch so many lives. The 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Moses Lake will bring families, friends and supporters together to raise awareness and funds in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease, while the Autism Support Group of Grant County’s Autism Acceptance Community Day in Ephrata will celebrate acceptance, connection and support for individuals with autism and their families.

The Columbia Basin Foundation is proud to see local organizations creating opportunities for people to gather, learn, support one another and strengthen our communities.

Whether you walk in Moses Lake, celebrate in Ephrata, or help spread the word about both, September 19 is a great day to show up and make a difference!

Friday at the Foundation:

Labor Day is more than the unofficial farewell to summer—it’s a celebration of the people whose hard work has helped build and strengthen our country. First celebrated in the 1880s and established as a federal holiday in 1894, Labor Day recognizes the contributions and achievements of American workers.

Here in the Columbia Basin, we see that hardworking spirit all around us—in agriculture, education, healthcare, small businesses, nonprofits, public service, and countless other professions that keep our communities moving forward. The Columbia Basin Foundation is proud to serve a region filled with people who roll up their sleeves, lend a hand, and work together to make this a great place to call home.

This Labor Day, we celebrate the workers of yesterday and today whose efforts continue to build stronger communities and brighter futures. Happy Labor Day from the Columbia Basin Foundation!

The twenty-first century brought major changes to nearly everything, and libraries are not excluded from that. While historically, libraries have been places to borrow physical books, conduct research, and access archives, their role has expanded in the digital age. Today libraries provide access to technology and information, host educational and community programs, offers spaces to gather, and provide resources for all kinds of people.

Recognizing this shift in the purpose of libraries, the Moses Lake Public Library Foundation, alongside its fund with the Columbia Basin Foundation, was established to support the development and improvement of the library in Moses Lake. The Foundation’s long-term goal is to create a library facility that can better serve the community in this day and age. While they initially explored plans to build a new library, they have turned their focus towards renovating and expanding the existing facility. Some of their plans include more flexible meeting and study spaces, improved accessibility, updated infrastructure, and additional room for collections, technology, and future growth.

While working towards a completed project, the Foundation has made improvements in the meantime. The volunteers raise funds, give out free children’s books to raise awareness and inform people about the Foundation, and regularly meet to discuss progress and future projects. Recently, in 2024, the Foundation received a major anonymous donation that allowed them to complete a long-awaited shelving project. The new shelving replaced the outdated units from the 1960s, creating a safer and more modern space with increased visibility and mobility for those perusing the books.

For over twenty years, the Moses Lake Public Library Foundation has worked to improve the local library and ensure it meets the growing and changing needs of the Moses Lake community, both today and in the future. The Columbia Basin Foundation is glad to partner with them as they work to bring their vision for the library closer to reality.

Off they go!

A new adventure is beginning for Columbia Basin Foundation scholarship recipients as they head off to colleges, universities, and training programs across the country. This year, 146 students are setting out for destinations in 14 different states, each ready to pursue new goals, meet new people, and discover what comes next.

We’re proud to play a small part in helping these students take that next step. Wherever their paths lead, we wish them success, new experiences, and plenty of great memories along the way.

Congratulations to our scholarship recipients—and safe travels as you begin this exciting new chapter!

The Odessa Community Fund was established in 2025 and is one of the Columbia Basin Foundation’s newest special project funds. Its purpose is simply to provide an avenue for supporting community projects in Odessa.

Over the past year, the fund has focused on an exciting project: building public pickleball courts in Odessa. True to the fund’s name, creating the courts was a community effort. It required fundraisers throughout the year to gather donations of materials, labor, and money for the project. Through each stage, volunteers and community members were involved, from laying the foundation and pouring the court coating to building the fences around it. After all the hard work, the courts were finally completed this summer, just in time for everyone to enjoy them during the sunny days. After completing their first project, they moved on to the next. More volunteers and donations brought new basketball hoops and lines, along with lighting for the volleyball, basketball, and pickleball courts.

Projects like these are important because they create a space where community members can connect, spend time together, and stay active. And it was all made possible by a generous community coming together to donate their time, money, and resources for the benefit of everyone.
