Where you shop matters more than most people realize.

When you spend $100 at a small business, about $68 stays in your local community. When that same $100 is spent at a national chain, significantly less of it continues to circulate locally.

That difference shows up everywhere. It supports local jobs, helps other small businesses, and strengthens the places we call home.

This National Small Business Week, choose to support local.

From exploring Downtown Enterprise and enjoying local dining to attending community events or relaxing in the city’s parks, visitors quickly discover why the City of Enterprise, Ala. is an UnBollWeevible destination.

Visit Enterprise is proud to join communities across the country in celebrating National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW), May 3–9, 2026, recognizing the travel industry’s vital contributions to the U.S. economy and its impact on local communities like the City of Enterprise, Ala..

“Tourism in Enterprise is truly UnBollWeevible,” said Tammy Doerer, Director of Tourism and Community Relations. “From the moment visitors arrive, they experience the hospitality, charm, and sense of community that make our city special. National Travel and Tourism Week gives us the chance to celebrate the people, places, and experiences that continue to make Enterprise a destination worth discovering.”

Since its establishment in 1983, NTTW has recognized how travel strengthens the U.S. economy, fosters connection, and enhances quality of life. This year’s theme, “Postmarked: Essential,” underscores the importance of travel as a cornerstone of economic growth and cultural exchange in communities nationwide.

In Enterprise, tourism plays a key role in supporting local businesses, attracting visitors, and enhancing community vibrancy. Whether guests are visiting for a weekend getaway, youth sports tournament, or one of the city’s many festivals and events, they experience firsthand the charm and hospitality that define the community.

At the heart of Enterprise stands the iconic Boll Weevil Monument, a symbol of resilience and innovation that reflects the city’s unique story. Known as the “City of Progress,” Enterprise continues to build on that legacy, offering visitors a blend of Southern charm, modern amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere.

A full day of community activities is planned in Downtown Enterprise for Saturday, June 6, 2026, as part of the Hometown Heroes Celebration: A Salute to our Military and First Responders, hosted by Friends of Main Street with support from multiple City of Enterprise, Ala. departments. 🇺🇸

The day will begin with the Hometown Heroes Freedom 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk, coordinated in conjunction with Enterprise Parks and Recreation. The race will start at 8:00 a.m. at the intersection of East College Street and Main Street. East College Street will be closed from 7:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. to accommodate the event and ensure safety of all involved. More than 500 participants are expected.

Registration for the 5K and Fun Run is available online at friendsofmainstreetenterprise.com. Entry fees are $35 with a T-shirt or $30 without, with all proceeds benefiting scholarship opportunities for military members, first responders, and their families. All registration funds will be collected by Friends of Main Street.

Following the morning race, downtown activities will resume at 2:00 p.m. with the Hometown Heroes Celebration. Street closures for the afternoon event will include portions of East College Street, West College Street, and Easy Street, along with use of the Courthouse parking area.

The afternoon event will open with a formal salute recognizing military members and first responders and will feature a wide range of family-friendly activities, including:
• A Touch-a-Truck experience, held in partnership with the Coffee County (Alabama) Community Emergency Response Team (CC-CERT), bringing the annual Community Safety and Preparedness Fair into the downtown event
• A Kids Zone with inflatables and activities
• A Patriotic Pet Contest inviting pets of all sizes to showcase their patriotic spirit, with awards for creativity, crowd appeal, and overall presentation
• Hometown Heroes Boot Camp featuring group fitness activities coordinated by Enterprise Parks and Recreation fitness instructors
• Downtown Bingo with an opportunity to win a prize from participating merchants
• Food vendors and food trucks

The Patriotic Pet Contest will be free to enter, with registration available online at friendsofmainstreetenterprise.com. Participants will have the opportunity to showcase their pets in themed attire, with judging based on creativity, crowd appeal, and patriotic spirit. Awards will be presented in small and large dog divisions, along with a crowd favorite.

The day will conclude with a video tribute honoring local Hometown Heroes.

This community event is organized by Friends of Main Street, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, with support from Main Street Enterprise and several City of Enterprise departments.

Enterprise City Council approved the Hometown Heroes Celebration permit and street closure request at its April 7 meeting and is expected to consider the Freedom 5K and Fun Run street closure request at its May 5 meeting.
