We are honored to announce one of our 2026 Spring Turkey Hunt Selectees Sergio Cerne. He will be hunting in our home state of Utah . Please take a moment and read his bio.
A life o f Service - Sergio Cerne
At the age o f 14, Sergio immigrated to the United States with his parents, where he attended high
school and began building the foundation for a life rooted in service, hard work, and faith. After
graduating from Eagle Rock high school in Los Angeles CA, he joined the United States Air
Force in 1973, during the final years of the Vietnam War.
He was first stationed at McGuire Air Force Base with Military Air Command, where he worked
as a jet mechanic on C-141 cargo planes. While stationed there he gained his citizenship at the
immigration offices i n Newark New Jersey. His skill and dedication later led to an assignment
with Tactical Air Command, where he worked on F-4 Phantom Il fighter jets with the 18th
Tactical Air Wing. His time in the Air Force instilled discipline, resilience, and a deep sense of
purpose qualities that would carry forward into every chapter of his life.
Following his military service, he attended San Jose State University while living in California.
It was during this time that he felt called to continue serving others and chose a career in law
enforcement, joining the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office. Sergio later in an effort to be
closer to his parents moved to southern California where he became a police officer for the city
of San Clemente which later merged with the County of Orange. Throughout his carrier he
served as a K-9 patrol officer, Detective, was a member of the SWAT team, and also serviced on
a federal narcotics suppression task force working inconjuction with the DA, FBI and DOJ. He
served his community with integrity and commitment, ultimately retired in 2015 after 34 years of
dedicated service.
Throughout both his military and law enforcement careers, his Christian faith remained a
constant source of strength. It guided him through difficult moments, provided clarity in times of
uncertainty, and shaped the way he served and cared for others.
He has always had a passion for motorcycles —a passion he continues to enjoy today. Whether
riding his Harley-Davidson Tri Glide, Harley-Davidson Dyna Wide Glide chopper, or his Honda
VTX 1800 bobber, the open road has always been a place of freedom, reflection, and
camaraderie.
In 2019, while attending a Care Share function during a CVMA check presentation, he was
invited by a member o f the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association to come out and join — and
he did. From that moment on, he and his wife, Deborah, found not just an organization, but a family.
Since joining, they have embraced the mission of "Vets Helping Vets" and have become deeply
involved in supporting fellow veterans and their community. As Chapter Chaplain, he considers
it a true honor and privilege to serve, uplift, and support his CVMA brothers and sisters, as well
as the community around them.
From immigrating to this country as a young teenager, to serving in the United States Air Force,
to a long and honorable career in law enforcement, his life has been defined by service, faith, and
dedication. He remains grateful for every opportunity to give back and continues to live by the
values that have guided him every step of the way.
