This year, CROME is honored to award $20,000 in scholarships to 16 recipients and 6 iPads to students pursuing higher education through both traditional and nontraditional pathways.

At Ennis High School, we proudly recognized 8 scholarship recipients through the CROME Scholarship and the Luis Quenan Valles Scholarship. From an incredible group of applicants, these students were selected because they embody what CROME stands for: purposeful living, perseverance, leadership, community impact, and giving back to others. We are proud of each recipient and remain deeply inspired by every student who applied.

The Luis Quenan Valles Scholarship was created in honor of Luis, our friend, brother, and son. Luis was a board member of CROME, an organization first created to honor his lifelong friend, Claudio Romero Jr., after his passing. Through both grief and gratitude, the organization now also honors Luis Quenan Valles.
Luis was made of the brightest stars, carrying a light and energy that stayed with everyone he met. To keep that light going for as long as we can, we choose to carry his name forward in a way that feels true to who he was, by supporting others.
This scholarship now carries his name and exists to support students who show perseverance, integrity, and a genuine desire to keep learning and growing.
Created by his family and housed within CROME, the Luis Quenan Valles Scholarship ensures that Luis’s legacy continues through the lives he helps shape.

Andy is an Ennis High School graduate and a proud friend of Claudio, whose legacy continues to inspire his commitment to giving back. Andy has quickly built experience across the music industry, real estate development and sales, and new home construction. 🏠

Through these ventures, Andy has learned the value of strong relationships and helping others achieve their goals. We’re excited to have him join CROME and support students—especially those exploring non-traditional career paths, all while honoring Claudio’s memory through service to the Ennis community.

Please welcome Cody Huffman to the CROME family as a Legal Mentor! ⚖️✨

Cody is an attorney at law in Austin, TX, bringing a rich background in criminal defense and family law. A native of the Rio Grande Valley, Cody earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas State University and his Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s University School of Law. Throughout law school, he gained extensive experience representing indigent clients, competing on the nationally ranked Advocacy Team, and publishing scholarly work centered on race and social justice.

Cody’s commitment to community shines through his pro bono service, leadership in justice-centered initiatives, and dedication to helping students explore pathways in law. 💼

We’re excited to have him join CROME and support the next generation of students pursuing legal and public service careers.

Join us in welcoming Lindsey Barak to the CROME team as a Nursing Mentor! 💛🩺

Lindsey’s nursing career began locally at Navarro College and has grown into decades of clinical work, graduate and doctoral education, and leadership in nursing instruction. While Lindsey has a background in Women’s Services and Pediatrics, she now serves as a Professor and Assistant Program Director at Navarro College, supporting students academically, personally, and professionally. 🏥📚

Her commitment to students, education, and the Ennis community makes her an incredible addition to our mentorship team, and we’re honored to have her join CROME. 🌟
