Head Coach: Jeff Joseph (51-6 career record)
State Rank: #3 in 5A Division II (Dave Campbell’s Texas Football)

Tools and outlook: Hybrid Wing T, disguised with 3 or 4 Wideout sets, an H-back, and often a one-back formation. Next level offensive line.
Key Player: Tyson Henry - explosive back who rushed for 86 yards and 3 TDs on just 12 carries in last week’s 48-7 rout of Nacogdoches.
Next level Oline, is legit and well-schooled.
H-back ( #42 or #41), and often a one back formation. with #27. #8 and #2 are solid WR’s.
Large bodies in the defensive trench, LBs quick to the ball. Speed abounds on this defense.
Playoff Pedigree: 4 state titles, 8 total State game appearances.

Scoring Margin: Averaging 35.7 points per game, allowing 33.4
Strength: Explosive offense and Gritty defense with 9 returning starters.
Key Players: QB Chris Martinez is approaching 2000 yards passing with 15 TDs. RB Wenderius Jones is averaging 7.7 yards per carry with 1,273 yards and 27 TDs. Aggressive defensive front, with contact hungry LBs and ball hawking DBs.
Momentum: Riding high after a strong bi-district win, looking to upset a top-ranked PNG squad
Playoff Pedigree: 5 state titles in program history.
Key Matchups to Watch
Ennis Defense vs. PNG Rushing Attack: The Lions’ experienced front seven will need to contain Henry and force PNG into third-and-long situations. PNG defense must contain Jones, who only needs a crease.
QB Martinez is a dual threat.
Turnover Battle: Ennis must protect the football and capitalize on any PNG miscues.
Special Teams Impact: In a game where field position could be critical, look for special teams to play a pivotal role.
Tale of the Tape: Across the state, on radio, in news-print, and on podcasts, this game is being billed as a classic “David and Goliath” playoff scenario. Phrases like: “Ennis will need to conjure up ghosts of its playoff past to have a chance in this one,” - "Stay close enough to strike late to pull off a miracle,” and “Bring on SOC” are common takes.
PNG is indeed highly ranked, but the Lions are battle-tested, and hungry to make some noise; READY to make history.
Can Ennis shock the state and keep the dream alive? Well … could someone please remind me, how did that Shepard vs. the Giant story turn out anyway?
Any Thing can Happen.
