Leadership Englewood Class 2026 couldn't have asked for a better day to wrap up the last class day, Tourism Hospitality Day on Wednesday.

The day started on Boca Grande with a continental breakfast sponsored by Michael Saunders & Company where the class heard from Caroline Clabaugh of The Boca Beacon.

Next, it was off on a golf cart tour of the island, courtesy of Carol Stewart from Michael Sanders & Company, Boca Grande Office. The class took the golf carts to the Boca Grande Lighthouse, where they learned about the lighthouse's history from Melissa Noland of the Barrier Island Parks Society, Inc. Hunter Carpenter of Visit Sarasota County talked about how the effects of Southwest Florida tourism cross county lines.

After a short stop at Don Pedro State Park to learn about Eco Tourism from SUP Englewood, the class rode on Abel's Marine & Abe's Boat Rentals boats for lunch at the SandBar Tiki & Grille. After the delicious meal, Carol Leonard, from the Coastal Wildlife Club, educated the class about sea turtles.

The Dearborn Coffeehouse and Bakery - Joe Maxx and Dickie's Pizza provided the boat drinks and snacks, which hit the spot while the class checked out Milton's Pass in Stump Pass State Park.

The day concluded at the Lighthouse Grill with appetizers and drinks courtesy of The Lighthouse Grill at Stump Pass and Abel's Marine & Abe's Boat Rentals and a brief presentation from Tricia LaPointe, CEO/Executive Dir of the Peace River Wildlife Center - PRWC.

Special thanks to Leadership Englewood Alumni Kris Hartley, John Watson, Dickie Jean, Kristina Watts, & Jim Litton for organizing the day.

What a night for leadership in Charlotte County.

For the first time, Leadership Englewood and Leadership Charlotte (Classes of 2026) came together for a joint workshop focused on becoming effective board members.

Participants heard from an outstanding panel of community leaders: Donna Barrett, CEO, Tony Smith, CPA, and Commissioner Bill Truex, who shared insight on board service, fiduciary responsibility, understanding organizational health (including 990s), and navigating Robertโ€™s Rules of Order.

A special thank you to Katrina Towns, owner of Abels Marine and Vice Chair of Leadership Englewood, for sponsoring the dinner. The CDBIA for hosting. And of course, Kellie Dunson Allen, Chair of Leadership Englewood, and Donna Barrett, Chair of Leadership Charlotte, for the vision, collaboration, and planning that made this evening possible.

The evening also gave both classes the opportunity to share their projects, needs, and goals, reinforcing the impact these emerging leaders will have across our community.

This was more than a workshop; it was the beginning of collaboration between two leadership programs committed to strengthening Charlotte County.

We look forward to many more opportunities to connect, learn, and lead together.
