With the last day inching closer, what's your favorite end-of-year activity? Field day? Senior trips to their elementary school? Final assembly? Continuation? Graduation? Or simply cleaning up the classroom and reflecting on all the growth from the year? We hope you all have a wonderful last couple of days of school!

Forgot your red for Ed spirit today? No sweat! We’re wearing red every Tuesday up to June 9th. (By the way happy last Tuesday that feels like a Monday of the school year!)

Pick out that red shirt, dig out the red pants, rock the red shoes! On Tuesdays, we wear Red and DCF items to remind ourselves and our community that we, as educators, have an incredibly important job and we are the experts in how it is done! Twin with your bestie down the hall or make a new friend in a different pod. We look forward to seeing your spirit!

Did you know this past fall a new report card system was implemented in our DCSD elementary schools? Teachers reported learning about it mostly through word of mouth, only a few weeks before report cards were due. Many teachers said they were not fully trained on the new system, and the change created significant time burdens and stress. There was little guidance, resulting in different standards across schools and even within schools across grade levels. As a result, families received report cards that were significantly different from previous years and those with kids in different grades may have received reports that followed different standards. Time that would have been spent painting an accurate picture for parents to know how their students are doing was shifting towards learning a new system with little support.

At DCF, we know and understand that change is part of growing and improving. However, we also know that we as educators are aware of what works and what we need to ensure changes function in our classrooms. We want to support growth and innovation in our district in a way that ensures decisions are sustainable and realistic so our students and families benefit.

Did you have your kids draw a specific picture? Write a "to my future self" letter? Sing a special song or do a fun dance? The end of the school year is coming quick so don't forget to plan out time to show your students, their families, and yourself how much they have learned this year. Put their first time writing a sentence next to what they write tomorrow. Take time in class to let the students read those letters and reflect on what they wrote. Sing the song or do the dance and see how much they have grown. Write out your favorite memories from the classroom this year and head into the final week with fond love of the past and excitement for the future!

Congratulations to all of the 2026 graduates! Many of our DCSD educators are also graduates. They range from alternative licensure programs, student teachers who are now fully licensed educators, masters degrees, PhDs, and more!
Working in education is demanding; working while going to school is extraordinary. We celebrate your achievements and thank you for everything you give to our students and communities!

Happy Mother's Day! Thank you to all of our incredible educators who treat their students as if they were their own children, teaching them love and joy alongside curriculum. It is incredible seeing how much care you bring every single day, especially knowing that many of our teachers are also mothers to their own children. You are amazing for showing up for your students and then going home to the full-time job of being a mother.

When bargaining is open to the public, our whole community gets a window into the ideas shaping our schools. Transparency leads to better decisions for everyone as well as greater trust in our schools.
