At the August 25th School Board meeting the Board voted to approve putting the MLO on the ballot. This November Douglas County Voters will have the option to decide if they want to invest in our students here in DCSD.

The largest portion of the $54 million dollar MLO will be going towards retention of educators. DCSD currently has the lowest starting pay out of the metro districts and this MLO will move the district just above Jeffco. There will still be work to do but this is a strong start in recognizing that our students thrive when they have excellent educators.

There are a lot of important elements that will also benefit from the funds including special education programming ($5 million), school safety/security, ($2 million) Career & Technical Education teachers and programming ($2 Million), and more!

School consolidations are never easy, and while we’ll miss our former school communities, we’re excited to see these newly named schools grow and build their own identities.

DCSD will continue to see shifts in enrollment, and tough decisions will follow. A collective bargaining agreement can’t change population trends — but it can ensure educators’ voices are centered when decisions impact entire communities. Our educators are on the frontlines of these changes whether it be taking on a different grade level, moving to new buildings, and more. We always want to best for our students, and considering we spend the most time with them we are the best suited to help inform student first decisions.

Dolly Parton knew what it was like to struggle as she fought for working families her whole career. From providing free books to kids to giving working women our "9 to 5" anthem, she was an icon and an inspiration.

Rest in power to our union sister. We will always love you.

A new school year means new member spotlights! The bulk of DCSD schools are just starting their year but at DC Oakes teachers like Jenifer are a few weeks from ending their first quarter. We love how deeply she cares about supporting new educators and giving our kids the best! We agree, a strong partnership between DCF and DCSD will be monumental for giving our students the best chance to thrive!
