Here is the world wide ask to recognize the planet's cry for help.
In Florida, we are asked to focus on local waterway maintenance and native wildlife.

Volunteer with LBC to maintain the Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve, or the Lemon BayWatch clam or sea grass studies. Let's pull together to protect our natural environment during World Environmental Day.

Plan on seeing LBC and a host of other local environmental vendors at World Ocean Day this Saturday, sponsored by Sarasota County. We will be located at Booth D, underneath the Main Tent. We will have several interactive activities including Vertical Oyster Gardens, build your own shark magnet, Lucky Duck game and more.
Bring the kids!

The World Ocean day event at North Jetty Park aligns with the internationally recognized World Ocean Day to celebrate the significance of our oceans and marine environments. This annual local event brings together families, ocean enthusiasts, and eco-conscious individuals who are eager to learn about and protect our beloved marine world.

Celebrate World Bicycle Day today and every day. There are great trails throughout the area to enjoy Mother Nature and great bicycle shops in our own backyard.

Celebrate "30 Days Wild" month in June! Get outside to enjoy nature. A great way to do that locally is to explore the Lemon Creek Wildflower Preserve, located at 3120 Gasparilla Pines Boulevard, Englewood, FL 34224. The public is invited to volunteer, go birding and participate in guided walking tours. LBC is also hosting a kayak paddle tour on June 8 so be sure and sign up.

Preventable. Please read and share.

🐢 Today we lost one.

This morning, CWC recovered an adult male green sea turtle on our patrol area. He didn’t make it.

Definitive vessel strike.

We’ve been doing this for more than 30 years. It never gets easier. It shouldn’t.

This was preventable.

It is nesting season on the Gulf Coast right now. Females are coming ashore at night to nest. The males are waiting just offshore — holding in the nearshore waters, waiting to mate — surfacing to breathe every few minutes — directly in the path of boats moving too fast to stop.

You cannot see a turtle at speed. By the time you do, it’s already too late.

Here’s how you share the water:

🕶️ Designate a Wildlife Spotter — someone whose only job is watching the water. Polarized sunglasses cut the glare and make a real difference.

🚤 Slow down voluntarily. You don’t need a sign. You don’t need a law. You need to choose it.

🐢 See a turtle? Props in neutral. Give it a respectful distance and let it move on its own terms.

If you hit a sea turtle, or see one that needs help:

📞 FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline: 888-404-3922

Call immediately. Every minute matters. This will initiate stranding response.

We will be back on the beach at dawn tomorrow. Because that’s what we do.

LBC awards an annual scholarship in honor of Elsie Bracken, who was a loyal LBC member and a Boca Grande resident, who was known for tarpon fishing experience in the "Boca Grande World's Richest Tournaments" and for the most tarpon caught in the women's division.

With her passing in 2023, LBC is happy to bestow a scholarship to deserving Lemon Bay High School seniors with an interest in conservation and environmental issues, in her honor.

Keegan Noel was this year's recipient. Congrats and best wishes in your endeavors!
