National and State YAC members rocked it last week at the 2013 National Service Learning Conference where they represented Special Olympics and Project UNIFY by hosting a booth in the exhibit hall, leading an interactive breakout workshop on how The Youth of Today are the Leaders of Today and presenting a incredible key note speech during the conference plenary session! Our youth leaders certainly left their mark and touched many lives. Great Job!

Quotes from 4th graders at Graland Country Day School:

What does begin involved with the R-word campaign mean to you?

Weston: It means a lot to me because we are helping people that have intellectual disabilities. I have friends that have disabilities and it doesn't make them any different. It makes me sad and offended when I hear people use the r-word. I want to do my part to make a change.

Kendall: I feel good because I am helping people. I want to make them feel better. I don't want people to feel like the are being excluded and no one cares about them. I want to end the R-word because people use it the wrong way, they use it to mean stupid or dumb.

Sloan: I learned that even though some people are different, they are not less. I don't want people to continue to get hurt by one mean word.

Jeb: Being a part of this campaign has meant a lot to me. I want to stop the insults because there's really nothing different about people with intellectual disabilities. It's not about the outside, it's about the inside.
