The CRI&P Calhan,Colorado Depot project. The Calhan Depot was abandoned in the early 1980's and has sat neglected until we purchased it in 2015.

We intend to restore it and then either donate it to the city or a local 501 (c) (3).

At Billy Earl Dade Middle School in Dallas, organizers of the annual “Breakfast with Dads” event expected about 50 volunteer fathers or father figures to join students for a morning meal and mentoring, especially for the roughly 150 boys signed up who might not have had a dad to bring. After a Facebook post seeking mentors quickly went viral, responses poured in far beyond expectations, and on Dec. 14, 2017, more than 600 men showed up to participate, filling the gym and serving as supportive role models for the students. The event included breakfast and interactive activities, such as teaching boys how to tie neckties, creating meaningful moments between volunteers and students.

The overwhelming turnout highlighted a strong community response and underscored the school’s goal of engaging families and providing positive male influences. Event organizers, including children’s advocate Kristina Dove, hope to build on this success by bringing those volunteers together again for future mentorship opportunities, reinforcing the impact of community involvement in students’ lives.

An excellent turnout at our last drill for the season. A dozen men in ranks in the Grenadier Company alone. Nec Aspera Terrant!

If anyone is interested in applying to join our regiment now would be a great time. We have a recruit school over drill to help prepare new troops!

The CRI&P Calhan, Colorado Depot Project and Historical Interpretive Center.

The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad Depot at Calhan, Colorado is project of the Rocky Mountain Railroad Heritage Society. It along with a great many other structures in the Rocky Mountain West needs to be restored and preserved. Our Mission Statement stresses that we try and save our vanishing railroad heritage honoring the men and women who worked and died on the railroads here in the Rocky Mountain Empire.

The Calhan Depot was built in 1888 by the CN&K Railway a part of the “Rock Island”, and this site was chosen because of the water which was available for the steam engines.

After the railroad(s) went out of business the depot sat derelict for a number of years, until our organization purchased it in 2014. Our goal is to restore the depot and create a railroad heritage park, which will include rail cars, and engines. A garden railroad, a museum and a coffee and sandwich shop to be housed in a railroad dining car. The museum to be located in the depot will have a model railroad layout depicting the railroad line as it was from Colorado Springs to Limon, Colorado in the days of steam and early diesel.

On our site we will continue to show the developments and growth of hte depot and restoration of both it and our 1912/1942 caboose.
