Monday Meeting at the Carriage House. Great presentation on how to "Protect Yourself from Identity Theft and Scams" by Englewood PD's Detective Captain Tim Torell and Captain Thomas Greeley. The officers were interesting, knowledgeable and engaging. The audience was involved and asked good questions.

During COVID, scam rates soared, and they still continue in large numbers. Numerous ways in which people are fooled were described--in their homes with fake PSE&G badges, on the phone where skilled scam artists get victims to tell them their social security and credit card numbers. Notice who is asking for your info in your inbox, too. It's often not who they claim to be. Check the email address to see if it's legitimate.

Frances Perkins Perkins was one of WCE notable prominent speakers. She was an American workers-rights advocate who served as the U.S. Secretary of Labor from 1933 to 1945, the longest serving in that position.

She made history as the first woman to serve in any presidential U.S. Cabinet

She's highlighted in this article on "Letter From an American" written by historian Heather Cox Richardson about the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. This disaster took the lives of many young people working there.

Frances Perkins and all those who worked with her, transformed the horror of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire into the heart of our nation’s basic social safety net. Read more here:
