♥️On behalf of the Englewood Public School District (EPSD) and Superintendent Dr. Marnie Hazelton, I am honored to personally invite you to join us for our Black History Month celebration on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at the Dizzy Gillespie Auditorium at DMHS.
♥️The event will take place from 6:30–8:00 PM, with a dinner reception starting at 5:00 PM.
❤️This year’s theme is Highlighting Unsung Heroes, a tribute to individuals who have shown extraordinary perseverance, resilience, and dedication to improving our community, particularly within the EPSD.
♥️We will honor several remarkable Englewood trailblazers by naming awards after them and presenting them to faculty and staff members who embody their spirit and legacy.
♥️The Award Categories:
♥️Jack Drakeford Award: This award honors individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service and leadership in our community, much like Mr. Jack Drakeford, whose work as a firefighter, city clerk and city manager made a lasting impact on Englewood.
♥️Glenda D. Frasier-McGee Award: Named after the tireless advocate for education and community empowerment, Mrs. Glenda D. Frasier-McGee, this award celebrates those who have made lasting contributions to the education and development of EPSD's youth.
♥️John T. Wright Award: This award recognizes individuals whose leadership and advocacy in the community reflect the pioneering spirit of Mr. John T. Wright, the first African American councilman in Englewood.
♥️Colonel Dolores H. Hampton Award: Named after Colonel Dolores H. Hampton, a trailblazer in the U.S. Army, community advocate, DMHS Alum, this award honors those who exhibit leadership, service and dedication to our community.
♥️As part of this celebration, we will also honor Thomas "Moose" Monroe as our featured Unsung Hero. Thomas Monroe
♥️We would be delighted for you and a guest to attend this special evening, which will feature inspiring performances by the DMHS Drumline, DMHS/Grieco Dance Troupes, as well as a poignant poem recitation recognizing the individuals who have shaped and continue to shape the Englewood community.
