⭐ HONORING OUR GOLD STAR FAMILIES 🇺🇸
A Gold Star represents a life given in service to our nation—and a family forever changed by that loss.
The tradition began during World War I, when families displayed service flags with a blue star for each immediate family member serving in the Armed Forces. When a loved one died, a gold star replaced the blue, allowing the community to recognize the family’s sacrifice.
Today, Gold Star Families include the mothers, fathers, spouses, children, siblings, and other loved ones of those who died serving our country. Behind each star is a name, a story, and someone deeply loved.
Our nation began observing Gold Star Mother’s Day in 1936. Today, Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day falls on the last Sunday of September, while Gold Star Spouses Day is observed April 5. These days call us to pause, but our remembrance must continue throughout the year.
At Patriot Memorial Project, we create memorial murals and places of remembrance to honor America’s heroes, preserve their stories, and teach future generations about the sacrifices made for our freedom. Honoring the families who carry their memory is part of that mission.
⭐ If your family is a Gold Star Family in McMinn County, we would be honored to get to know you and your hero. If you feel comfortable, please email us at [email protected] to introduce yourself and share your loved one’s name and story. We would be grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn about their life and service, and honor their memory.
To every Gold Star Family: We remember your loved one. We honor your sacrifice. We stand beside you.
May God bring comfort and strength to your hearts, and may our communities always make room to listen, remember, and care. 💛
Their sacrifice. Our freedom. Forever remembered.
