Want a Free Mango Tree?

Angel Land Food Forest, a 501(c)(3) charity founded in 2017, has been nourishing the Englewood community through two grassroots initiatives: food redistribution and community mango tree planting.

Their original program’s initiative is to collect and redistribute food to pantries and hubs throughout Englewood. In 2021, the organization launched a second program: offering free mango trees to Englewood residents. These “community mango trees,” planted in front yards with signage encouraging public harvest, are now beginning to bear fruit. To date, Angel Land Food Forest has given away 250 grafted mango trees sourced from nurseries across Florida.

For 2025, the board has announced a new giveaway: Between 30 and 50 seven-gallon grafted mango trees will be distributed on Sunday, August 17 at 9:00AM. This year, recipients may plant their mango trees anywhere on their property. The trees are not required to be public-facing, and the organization will not provide follow-up care. To qualify, applicants must own their property, live full-time in Englewood, and reside in zip codes 34223 or 34224. Rental properties are not eligible. Applicants may apply if the property is a residence, a church, or a business they own. Recipients must plant the tree within two weeks and send a photo to [email protected]. To request a tree, call 941-909-0500. All efforts are carried out by unpaid volunteers. Anyone wishing to support the cause can donate to AngelLandFoodForest.org. Angel Land Food Forest thanks the community for sharing in its mission to grow a greener, more nourished Englewood.

I want to say a big thank you to Mango Bistro Marie Laforge and Ricardo who texted me today asking for places to deliver food from their restaurant. I jokingly asked her to leave one at my house, she replied veggie or turkey wrap. When I got back there was a turkey wrap, an Apple, some chips and soup. When you've been working on your home, don't have a stove , I don't have a refrigerator there. I do where I'm renting. But it was so lovely to get some food I didn't have to think about. Just remember everybody, all the people that have been helping us in our village of Englewood. It's the reason we live here. The hearts are so big in this place it's awe inspiring to me.

Morning Earthlings ... A Poem by Edgar Albert Guest, 1881-1959
Don't Quit
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
when the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
when the funds are low and the debts are high,
and you want to smile but you have to sigh,
when care is pressing you down a bit - rest if you must, but don't you quit.
Life is q***r with its twists and turns.
As everyone of us sometimes learns.
And many a fellow turns about when he might have won had he stuck it out.
Don't give up though the pace seems slow - you may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man;

Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup;
and he learned too late when the night came down,
how close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out - the silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
and when you never can tell how close you are,
it may be near when it seems afar;
so stick to the fight when you're hardest hit - it's when things seem worst, you must not quit.

Good morning Earthlings, outside it is eerily calm. I have been walking through my home and saying thank you to it, for the 38 years that I've spent here. As I go from room to room, as I have to decide what to take for the next chapter. (When I went to Saudi Arabia, I took an iron and ironing board!! For those who know me well .. yes Laugh my darlings). I have such loving, fond memories of each place. Holding back tears, my family in England know the wall in the kitchen, where we keep the height and date of everybody that comes and visits. Adults and children alike. memories of great laughing, tragic tears. This spot where we laughed until we peed ourselves, this spot we had such a great Christmas, The memories come flooding in. This loving place I shared with my Beloved American Jan, before her death, I am not being morbid. Just thanking this place that has given so much. It will NOT be the same after Milton. What will be different? Only the Spirit of the Universe knows that. Please remember LIFE has such impermence, enjoy every minute. So my dears, "Our Adventures after" begins again. Much love to everyone, I mean everyone!! As long as we continue to breathe... I want to thank everyone also, that has helped me along the way. without love, kindness and generosity of people, it wouldn't be worth it. Now I have to check on the hens and finish packing the van. Thank you God. Hugs and kisses to you all.

12 noon. Update. For Friends and Family not in Florida, I will keep updating by photos until Hurricane Helene has left our area.
Prayers are working ..
Okay .. 1st picture showing the winds wrapping around the Hurricane. (Think of a figure skater as they go into a spin, 1st arms are out and as they spin faster, the tighter they get.)
2nd picture I did it, without the winds .. to see if we could see an eye .. there is a raggity big one trying to form up.
We should have more news from Hurricane Center at 2pm I think.
Locally the inundation is happening ..end of Dearborn Veterans Park is flooded. All the creeks are at the property lines or slightly above and the Hurricane is still so far away.
