Arts Horizons was founded in 1978 by John Devol, trumpet player, music educator and parent. John played in the orchestra of A Chorus Line for the entire 15-year run of the show and, as he sat in the pit night after night, he realized the importance of bringing quality music to children. He got together with fellow Broadway musicians and formed Festival Brass, a lively, interactive music assembly p

rogram that taught students about the brass family of instruments. In 1995 Festival of Music became Arts Horizons, a full-service arts- in-education organization. Now entering our fourth decade, we reach more than 250,000 students and teachers every year. Looking back over the past four decades, John Devol says, "We are committed to foster the development of the whole person by integrating the arts into the educational experience, and we endeavor to instill in people of all ages and abilities a knowledge of their own creativity. When I visit schools and senior centers and see faces light up, I now that it's all been worthwhile."

We are excited to share that last week, the Genesis Inspiration Foundation presented Arts Horizons with a generous $50,000 check in support of our creative arts programs for youth in Bergen County.

This incredible investment in the arts helps us continue our work to inspire creativity and self-expression in young people across our community.

We were honored to celebrate alongside our valued partners and representatives from the Genesis Inspiration Foundation, Bergen Family Center, Janis E. Dismus Middle School (The Zone), and the Englewood Board of Education.

Genesis Inspiration Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to connecting youth to the transformative power of the arts. Founded in 2018, it has awarded over $16 million in grants to expand youth arts organizations nationwide. With the support of Genesis and its retailers, we are introducing children to a new world of possibilities.

ARTS HORIZONS IS ON THE MOVE!

We are excited to announce that our administrative headquarters will officially relocate on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. After 30 years in our current space in Englewood, NJ, we bid farewell to the place that has nurtured our mission of creating equitable opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to engage in the arts.

As we move forward, we are excited to carry out the next phase of our strategic vision in our new location—launching a new chapter of providing exceptional multicultural and multidisciplinary arts experiences that create a profound and positive impact across communities in New York and New Jersey.

Please rest assured that our programs will remain right where you expect them to be—in schools, senior centers, libraries, and other community spaces.

We celebrate Women’s History month and twelve years of creative collaboration with Master Artist, Mr. Mansa M***a and Kings County Hospital. This beautiful artwork honors Women’s History Month, merging arts, education and healing for students under in-patient psychistric care. The staff shares that after these classes in the mornings the teen-agers can relax.
