This funding is critical to the preservation of our historic resources. We are able to hire local contractors, purchase materials through our local suppliers and reuse and restore historic buildings. The professionals working at the State Historic Preservation Office are invaluable to non-profit organizations and private homeowners alike. Please ask your representatives to support and reinstate this funding.
Speak Up to Release Federal Historic Preservation Investment!
Despite being fully funded by Congress in March of 2025, money appropriated for this year's Historic Preservation Fund (HPF) still has not been released to the CT State Historic Preservation Office. This delay threatens the work of our State and Tribal Historic Preservation Offices, puts historic places at risk, and could put a stop to preservation projects nationwide. Additionally, the Administration’s proposed FY 2026 federal budget would essentially eliminate HPF funding — this would be devastating for our statutory partners at the SHPO who rely on this money to fund salaries and programs- including funding local preservation groups, museums, and other non-profits!
Our Congressional leaders are supportive, but they need to hear why preservation is important from you!
Take Action Today:
Urge your federal officials to: Immediately release FY25 HPF funding so states and Tribes can continue their critical work AND fund the HPF in FY26 to support preservation ahead of our nation’s 250th anniversary so we are able to tell the full American story.
