Our April vacation trip brought the troop to Cape Cod this year. Saturday left the Moose early, first stop WoodsHole Oceanography Institute and aquarium. Then on to the Whydah Pirate Ship Museum very interesting having one of the greatest treasure discoveries right off our coast and to top it off the man who discovered it, Barry Clifford happened to be there to speak with us. Interesting process on how they recovered the artifacts and extracted them from over 300 years of concretion. From there onto BSA scout camp Greenough to set up camp and cook dinner. Belly’s full and temps dropping, a camp fire was in order along with some games and finally dive into our sleeping bags for the first night.
Breakfast served and lunches made we headed out for day 2 events, Nauset light house and beach walk to look for treasures and then onto the Audubon Society for a nature hike and lunch along the trail. Final day 2 stop was the Marconi RCA museum, little known area that played 2 major roles in the development of wireless communications, Morse code for trans Atlantic communications, ship to shore comm and the main hub for German decoding during WW2. On display they had on loan from the Smithsonian one of the German Enigma coding machines. Back to camp for awesome Chicken stir fry, camp fire, Cracker Barrel, games and sleep.
Day 3 sent us to the tip of the Cape, Province Town, to visit the Pilgrim tower and museum. From there to kill some time before the “special event” we went to Coast guard beech for another treasure hunt walk and some lunch. BOWLING AND WINGS, yup a friendly competition amongst the group. Duck pin bowling rocks! All had fun and filled up on wings. Our final night so big campfire, snacks along with packing up some no essentials and off to bed.
Final day, up eat pack and off to Plymouth Rock. Of all the sites we saw this had to be my favorite! Guided tour by Leo in period garb showed us and marveled us with an amazing story of the first settlers and the surrounding area. I highly recommend this tour. Special thanks to all that made this trip happen.
