Please join the Friends of the Enfield Library on September 30, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. as they welcome David Handler who has authored of 32 books, the majority of which are crime series. David will join us via ZOOM to discuss his prolific career and highlight his latest, The Man Who Swore He’d Never Go Home Again – home being a now deteriorating factory town in Connecticut whose librarian has been murdered.. This prelude explains how David’s famous protagonist, Steward Hoag met the love of his life, Academy Award winning Merilee and became the proud owner of Lulu, the basset hound who has been his faithful, although neurotic companion thru 16 “Hoagy” adventures.

David has also written eleven novels featuring the mismatched crime-fighting duo of New York film critic Mitch Berger and Connecticut State trooper Desiree Mitry and launched a series featuring teen runaway tracker, Benji Golden. He was a member of the original writing staff that created the Emmy Award-winning sitcom Kate and Allie and has continued to write extensively for television and films on both coasts. He lives in a 200-year-old carriage house in Old Lyme, Connecticut.

Join the Friends on Tuesday, June 24, 6:00PM at the Enfield Public Library Community Room for a discussion on True Crime presented by John Valeri, a lifelong lover of books and the people who write them.

John hosts an online show, Central Booking, where he interviews authors and other industry insiders. He has contributed book reviews, author interviews, and feature profiles to several magazines including Criminal Element, Mystery Scene Magazine, and The National Book Review. He regularly moderates author events and book discussions at bookstores and libraries throughout Connecticut, and serves on the planning committee for CrimeCONN, a one-day reader/writer mystery conference co-sponsored by Mystery Writers of America/New York Chapter.

Did you know that True Crime books are the most frequently stolen books from libraries and book stores? Why commit a crime to read about crime? John may have the answer!

Come at 5:30 p.m. for our Coffee Clatch in the Community Room at the Central Library.
