SAFE STAFFING SAVES LIVES. This is just one example of how proper staffing along with quick response times can positively impact the outcome of an emergency. Johnson City Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 921 works with shifts of 8 or 9 firefighters at any given time, with a minimum of 6 firefighters on duty at all times. If there were less firefighters available, this incident could have had a much more tragic outcome. Kudos to the Village of Johnson City on taking the safety of their residents and visitors seriously and providing safe staffing levels to their fire department.

The village board is being criticized for filling two vacant fireman positions. These positions were not newly created but VACANT due to employee retirement. Yes our fire and police departments are an expense to the village tax payers but, they are also an asset.

Anyone who has ever had to call our first responders for help for a family member, friend, neighbor or themselves understands and appreciates the services our first responders provide to residents of the village.

Last November I personally experienced a life threatening event as you can see from my picture. My husband was stabbed four times by a delivery driver. If it were not for the quick response from our first responders my husband would have bleed out and not be alive today.

As a resident of the village of Johnson City I am thankful everyday for our first responders.

Training Together. Serving Together.

This past week, members of Endicott Professional Firefighters Local 1280, Johnson City Professional Firefighters IAFF Local 921, and Binghamton Professional Firefighter's Association Local 729 participated in the IAFF Confined Space Technician course, hosted by Endicott Fire Department.

Beyond earning nationally recognized Pro Board certifications, this training is an opportunity to demonstrate our collective commitment to the communities we serve. When emergencies happen, the residents of Endicott, Johnson City, and Binghamton can count on highly trained firefighters who regularly train together and work seamlessly across department lines.

Strong partnerships, shared training, and a commitment to excellence make our communities safer.

This week our President and Secretary/Treasurer are attending New York State Professional Firefighters Association Labor Law Conference in Binghamton.

This conference provides our union leaders and union leader from across the state, education and information on federal and state labor law, how to protect the health and safety of our members, along with legislative updates that impact firefighters across New York.

Conferences like this help our union leaders better represent our member, protect their health and safety and stay informed on fire service issues in New York.
