Union Center Fire Company Inc.

Union Center Fire Company started in 1947 with one station located at 1805 Union Center Hwy. A two-bay station was built at 1209 Taft Ave.

Over the years this station has been expanded to meet the needs of the community. As the population grew and shifted to the North Side area, a second station was needed to serve this area as well. and has since been upgraded to a four-bay station. Union Center Fire Company started a First Aid Team in the mid-1960's. In 1992 an EMS team was formed. The team is made up of personnel with CPR training

, New York State Certified First Responders, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Paramedics. The EMS team is trained to use an Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) for cardiac arrest patients, Oxygen, and airway management equipment - all of which is contained in our EMS response vehicle. The equipment and personnel are dispatched to respond in advance of an ambulance to get medical aid to a patient as quickly as possible. All emergency calls are received at Broome County's state-of-the-art 911 Communications Center. All alarms are radio-dispatched to our personnel through this Center. Upon receiving an alarm, members respond to the station and respond the proper emergency equipment to the scene.

Memorial Day is a time to remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.
While many enjoy this weekend with family and friends, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the freedoms we have because of those who gave everything in service.
As always, we also recognize and thank our active military members, veterans, and their families for their continued sacrifice and support.

Burn Ban Ending – Please Continue to Burn Safely
The statewide burn ban is lifted, but that doesn’t mean the risk is gone. As conditions begin to change, it’s still extremely important to use caution when burning outdoors.
Even after the ban ends:
• 🌬️ Be mindful of wind conditions
• 🌿 Keep fires small and manageable
• 🚿 Always have water or a hose ready
• 👀 Never leave a fire unattended
• 🚫 Avoid burning during dry conditions

From early morning calls to late-night emergencies, through heat, smoke, and uncertainty, firefighters stand ready—no matter the situation. Their commitment goes beyond fighting fires; it’s about serving neighbors, supporting the community, and always answering the call when help is needed most.
Today, we especially remember those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and legacy will never be forgotten.

Today is Wildfire Community Preparedness Day! As the weather warms up, it’s the perfect time to take small steps that make a huge difference in protecting our neighborhood.
You don’t need a lot of time to make an impact. Here are 3 quick things you can do today:
✅ Clear the Gutters: Remove dry leaves and pine needles—they’re fuel for stray embers.
✅ Create a "Fuel-Free" Zone: Clear any dead brush or tall grass within 5 feet of your home.
✅ Check the Vents: Ensure attic and crawlspace vents are screened to keep sparks out.
Preparation is a team effort!

Station Spotlight: Station 1 – “The Hole”
Located at 1811 NY Route 26 in Endicott, Station 1—better known as “The Hole”—serves as the backbone of our operations here at the Union Center Fire Company.
Built in 2006 on the site of our original station, this facility plays a critical role in protecting our non-hydrant (rural) district, where water supply and quick response are especially important.
Inside Station 1, you’ll find:
• Classrooms that accommodate 70–100 people for training and community events
• Administrative offices for department operations
• A day room and shower facilities for our members
• A dedicated radio room for communications
• A backup generator to keep us running no matter the conditions
