Ryan, an HU Board Member, captured some awesome photos during his visit to our organic farm and food forest project that feeds hospitalized women and children in Butare. The project also employs vulnerable women farmers. In the second to last photo you can see Ryan was serving the meals created using produce from the farm/food forest to caretakers who bring the food to the patients.

Just another beautiful day at the Aspire preschool! Here our children learn the importance of friendship, compassion and play! Many of our children live in extreme poverty so our school provides two healthy meals a day, clean drinking water, a safe environment to learn and a dedicated teaching staff that ensures that each child is reaching his or her potential. To sponsor the education of one of our preschool students please click the link in our bio ♥️

“Our hope is our hard work. We have goals and visions of developing ourselves and the good leadership of our country that allow people to freely work.”

For Andrea, putting food on the table for his family is not always easy but the Food Forest project has given him hope and happiness.

“In every moment of this project laughter and my monthly earnings make me smile because I know it is going to change the lives of my family.”

Can you feel the love?! 💚🪴💚

Meet Francine ~ mother of seven.

The Food Forest project provides Francine with a stable monthly income that allows her to keep her family fed, clothed, and safe.

Her bright, vibrant smile radiates the innate joy that is derived from this project and for that love that keeps her community connected.

😊✨☺️

“I have benefited from many things from this project… it has employed me and given me a stable monthly income. At the beginning of lockdown in 2020 many people in my neighborhood didn’t have anywhere to go but for me it was a different story. Because of this project I have continued to support my family and put food on table. Through a work incentive program, I was given a goat and our partners helped me make much needed repairs to my home. I have gained friends and family in the Kuzamura Ubuzima family and knowledge as well.”

I often see Rwandan women holding hands. It’s usually to lend support when walking on unsteady ground, but I know this action has a much deeper meaning. It’s a gesture that says “I’m here for you sister. Even though you are tired, weak, hungry and hurting, you have someone who will not let you fall. I see you, I will steady you, I love you”. Happy International Women’s Day ♥️

Dearest HU Family,

I hope this note finds you safe and well! I want to wish you all a blessed and beautiful Thanksgiving.

Here at HU we have so much to be grateful for! Our school continues to operate and the children continue to blossom in a safe, loving space where their minds and bodies are nourished with healthful food and an education that allows each child to thrive in her strengths in a peaceful, creative, fun and supportive environment.

Our Healing Gardens program continues to expand and we have BIG dreams of it growing all throughout Rwanda!

So today you can help us continue to GIVE in a BIG way.

You can help us build more healing gardens and plant more trees. This means nourishing food for people who often go without. It means food for the birds and the bees and the depleted soil. It means more beauty for all of Rwanda and its people. By donating ANY amount you will contribute to building a garden for a family in great need. Your contribution will go towards organic seeds, tree seedlings, compost, horticulture/biodynamic farming education, meditation and yoga classes at our food forest and trainings in nutrition and financial planning for members of the community.

In the spirit of Giving and Thanks, we hope you will donate today (click link in profile) and join us in feeding and nourishing people in desperate need.

With love and gratitude,

Maria Russo
