Borneo Wildlife Preservation

Borneo Wildlife Preservation 501(c)(3) public charity founded in the United States and France, aiding endangered Bornean elephants

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to protecting endangered species in Borneo. Our efforts aid injured, sick, displaced and orphaned Bornean Pygmy Elephants. Our tree planting projects help to reconnect degraded forests so that various habitats and migration paths are restored for many animal species. This ultimately promotes the survival of various wildlife and biodiversity of the Bornean Rainforest's.

Boy and Bagahak, our star Bornean elephants, enjoyed a day of eating, playing, and bathing in mineral salts, an activity packed with important health benefits. When they eagerly consume the salts, it’s often a sign their bodies truly need them.

At Borneo Wildlife Preservation, we are dedicated to improving the lives of elephants who depend on our care. Your continued support makes a meaningful difference and helps give them the healthier, happier lives they deserve. Sadly these 2 big boys have had a rough life living in captivity but we aim to significantly improve this situation this year! Support us and help the elephants ⬆️ www.borneowp.org

Salt blocks are surprisingly important for elephants because they provide essential minerals that are often missing from their natural diet.

In the wild, elephants spend a lot of time seeking out natural salt licks—sometimes even digging into the الأرض or traveling long distances—because their bodies depend on these nutrients to function properly.

Here’s why salt blocks matter:

1. Electrolyte balance
Salt contains sodium, which helps regulate fluids in the body. For elephants living in hot, humid environments like Borneo, this is critical for preventing dehydration.

2. Nerve and muscle function
Minerals in salt (like sodium and chloride) support proper nerve signaling and muscle contractions—including the heart.

3. Bone and overall health
Many salt blocks are enriched with additional minerals like calcium, magnesium, and phosphorus, which contribute to strong bones and general well-being.

4. Appetite and digestion
Salt can stimulate appetite and help

FOOD AND MINERAL SALT BLOCKS DELIVERED! The elephants are going to love this! Today is the first time the elephants have had salt! Salt blocks are surprisingly important for elephants because they provide essential minerals that are often missing from their natural diet.

Nutrient-rich food deliveries are now underway to help care for rescued elephants in Sabah, Borneo.

We remain deeply committed to improving their welfare and ensuring they receive the essential care and nourishment they urgently need. While Bornean elephants are the smallest elephant subspecies, their daily food requirements are immense—each elephant consumes between 100–200 kilograms of food every single day.

Right now, eight rescued elephants are in urgent need of additional food support as we work toward securing consistent, long-term funding and resources. This is a critical, short-term window where every donation has a direct and immediate impact.

No matter the size, your support helps keep these elephants nourished, healthy, and safe.

A very lucky day…along the Kinabatangan River, Bornean elephants are frequently observed swimming and engaging in social play. River use supports thermoregulation, reduces parasite load, and facilitates group cohesion, particularly among family units. These behaviors highlight the importance of intact habitats for the species’ physical health, social structure, and long-term survival.

At this time, eight rescued elephants urgently need additional food support while we work toward securing stable, long-term funding and resources.

This is a critical, temporary window where every donation makes a direct and immediate impact.
Whether large or small, your contribution helps keep these elephants fed, healthy, and safe.

Adolescent orphaned Bornean elephants grow up without the security of a herd, making touch and social bonding essential to their healing. Gentle physical contact helps reduce stress, build trust, and teach vital social skills they would normally learn from family.

By supporting programs like ours that prioritize safe, compassionate socialization, to give these young elephants the chance to heal emotionally and to grow into confident, connected adults through the work of and the support of Borneo Wildlife Preservation.

Playtime isn’t just cute to watch …it’s essential 🐘💚 For baby elephants, socialization and play help build confidence, reduce stress, and teach vital life skills like communication, cooperation, and emotional regulation. For orphaned calves, bonding with other babies is powerful behavioral enrichment that supports healthy development and healing after trauma.
