Ever wonder how we know a stream is doing well before we even cast a line? The secret isn’t just in the trout: it’s in what they’re eating!

Aquatic insects (macroinvertebrates) are the true "canaries in the coal mine" for our river health. These little guys are extremely sensitive to pollution, sediment, and rising temperatures.

The next time you’re out on the water, take a second to be a scientist. Flip a rock in a riffle and see who’s crawling around. A variety of bugs means the habitat is thriving, supporting everything from the smallest fry to that trophy rainbow you’re chasing.
