CCOYA would like to send out a huge thank you to Jeff Lipniskis for putting on a great program for us to kick off our Wild Wednesday series!! Jeff’s program was on the adventures of a wildlife photographer where he covered many different topics including wildlife species, habitats, behaviors, camera setups, trail cameras and much more. Keep your eyes out for next months program!!

Yesterday, CCOYA hosted a youth fly fishing clinic! 6 students attended the camp! the students learned about macroinvertebrate identification, fly selection, casting techniques, and much more!

The weather was perfect for this year’s Drum and Henry Kids Fishing Derby. The event was well attended with 147 youth attending. The Derby celebrated its 72nd year of providing the area youth a fun filled day of fishing. Every child attending was drawn for a prize. As always there were plenty of hot dogs and drinks available, along with a special treat of ice cream sandwiches and popsicles. The organizers of the event would like to thank the many individuals, Companies and organizations that help make this event possible, including the Emporium Foundation that provides much of the financial needs. The Drum and Henry Committee thanks the Bucktail Rod and Gun Club for the use of the grounds, along with Emporium Food Store for their various donations. Big thank you also goes to the Emporium Fire Police for their services. We also thank the many adults and youth volunteers that helped prepare the grounds, set up, prepare food, hand out prizes and clean up after the event. It is great to see our youth giving their time to helping others. The committee is always looking for that would like to help at the Drum and Henry fishing derby, anyone interested is asked to contact Taylor Gillette at (814) 562-0421. Bucktail Lake will be closed for youth fishing only ages 16 years and younger until June 14. The same derby rules apply during this time.
