A little question and answer about the Hornets before upcoming tryouts. We are excited to see everyone on the 18th!
Q: What are the Hit Factory Hornets and what are we about?
A: The Hornets are a competitive baseball organization centered around a holistic approach to player development. We utilize Hit Factory staff of former college baseball players, current college players, and high school coaches to develop strong fundamentals with the goal to compete at a high level in tournament baseball.
Q: What is included for Hornet players?
A: Our players have 24/7 access to the Hit Factory indoor facility, 5 (1-hour) private 1-on-1 lessons, fall and winter camps, uniforms (2 uniforms, batting helmets), tournament fees, and more.
Q: How do the tryouts work?
A: We have a staff of evaluators that have played at a high level and are non-player parents that take the athletes through a workout to evaluate their batting, fielding, catching, pitching, and other relevant baseball performance factors.
Q: Is this team only for Emporia kids?
A: No, we are open to athletes from Emporia and the surrounding areas.
Q: How many players on average does a team carry?
A: Hornet teams are usually made up of 10-11 players to ensure maximum playing time.
Q: What is the attendance expectation for players?
A: Off-season camp expectations are 80%. In season we expect a minimum attendance of 80%. We want to maximize practice time and development of our athletes. It is important that they are accountable to their teammates, coaches, and the program. We understand family events, vacations, and life situations. But our goals is to have players with a high commitment level to development.
Q: What are the private lessons?
A: Each player gets 5 private (one-hour) 1-on-1 lessons with Hit Factory staff. This can be pitching, hitting, fielding, or position specific.
Q: Do teams play league or only tournaments?
A: Some of our teams play in league and tournaments both. Some of our teams only play tournaments to maximize practice time during the week for development. Tournaments are usually played in Kansas City, Wichita, Topeka, Manhattan, or Salina. League games are typically played in Topeka at SCABA.
