Emporia First Friday EFF is Emporia, Kansas' monthly artwalk and an organization dedicated to enriching local culture through art. and 8:00 p.m.

EFF is Emporia's monthly Art Walk held on the first Friday of every month. Our mission is to connect the community with local artists and businesses in order to promote cultural growth. The Emporia First Friday Art Walk takes place between 5:00 p.m. in Downtown Emporia. Passports can be picked up at each Featured Venue during the Art Walk. Have your Passport signed at the Presenting Venue + 7 Feat

🤩 It's First Friday! 🎉 Join us this evening in Downtown Emporia for the Emporia First Friday Art Walk!

🎤 Before the walk, head to the Lyon County History Center from 4 to 5 pm for ESU's Art Forum Lecture Series featuring printmaker Nick Phan.

🎨 Join us at 5:15 for a special ribbon cutting of the new EFF Doodle Booth, Harry Henrikson’s Eagle Scout project, in Merchant Cycles. Then enjoy the Art Walk from 5-8 pm to see all the fantastic art and be involved in art activities! For a complete list of artists, venues, and venue specials, visit emporiafirstfriday.com/venues.

💲Turn in your completed Passport by 8 pm and join us at Mulready's Pub at 8:15 pm for prize drawings.

👉Go see them at St Andrew's Church during the walk from 5 to 8 pm. The blocks, all carved by ESU students and faculty, will feature a variety of imagery. 🦄🐔 This will be the perfect occasion to learn more about relief printing AND support the Print Guild!

👉 Be there at Merchant Cycles for Harry Henrikson's Eagle Scout project dedication at 5:15, and pick up new art from Doodle and Jots, Staci Hamman and Jerilynn Henrikson.
📝 They will have a variety of printed cards featuring Staci's art. 🗣Let’s talk about The Axe Shedd, our Presenting Venue for September! The Axe Shedd is located at 616 Commercial Street in Downtown Emporia and has been a long-time participant of the Art Walk. We appreciate them for providing a space for art! 🎨🪓

👉If you haven't been in yet, you need to. You'll find multiple throwing lanes as well as a bar serving pizza, b**r, w**e, and soft drinks. Whether you're looking for a unique outing with friends or coworkers, a thrilling date night, or just some stress relief, you can battle it out at The Axe Shedd. Their relaxed atmosphere makes it perfect to check out art during the Art Walk and for casual visits, a night out, or private parties. They also have a mobile axe throwing trailer for your next event. Make a plan to visit during the walk from 5 to 8 pm, and then make another plan to spend a evening to step up and throw down! 🍕 🪓

🎉 We are sure looking forward to the Art Walk this Friday, let's talk about September's Featured Artist – T.R. Stewart!

🪚 T.R is a local woodworker who creates unique art, including pop culture mosaic portraits and so many other fun things. We wanted to know more about how he got started and his inspiration, read on for more. 👇👇👇

❓How did you begin making your art?
T.R.: About 10 years ago, I started getting more serious about getting the tools and skills for woodworking. I started mainly because my wife found things online for our house and asked if I thought I could make them. I started making lights, side tables and decorations for the house, but shifted my focus when I found an inexpensive scroll saw on Marketplace. That purchase opened my eyes to what could be done with a scroll saw. I started making custom name signs for friends and family, and even sold a few online through word-of-mouth recommendations.

❓What inspires you to create your art?
T.R.: For the last few years I have leaned into making what I call pop culture mosaic portraits. Most of these pieces are inspired by shows like The Office and Parks & Recreation. But really, if something makes me laugh, I'll probably try to add it to the collection. I love seeing people's faces when they see one of these portraits and then start laughing and quoting lines from the character. Spreading joy is fun. Like they say, a cheerful heart is a good medicine. 😄

🎨👀 Be sure and check out the new exhibit "Ann Galbraith and Friends" at the Emporia Arts Center during the September 4 Art Walk!

🙂 Ann has invited friends to join her in celebration of her journey through the years. Sharing her skills and making friends along the way. Ann has met so many talented people and wanted to share the space with the people she enjoys.

All invited friends will have works of their own, but some will be part of group displays. Ann and others will show projects they have made together in the classes Ann has taught. 🙌 A collaborative exhibition you won't want to miss during the walk from 5 to 8 pm!
