Emmett Mtn Bike Team OUR MISSION:
WE BUILD STRONG MINDS, BODIES, CHARACTER, AND COMMUNITIES

06/03/2026

This week kicked off more skills training and development for our Huskie riders. We began practice with more skills training in the parking lot Coaches set up cones and broke down side to side bike body separation, cornering and shifting for climbing. We then took those skills out on the trail. We took time to slow down and hop off bikes and walking through how to shift and what our cadence should be. We may not have got as many miles in today (although 7-8 miles minimum for most is still great work) we did a lot of necessary skill development to help our riders build confidence and safety on the trails. Each week we work on skills, try and get miles and build up endurance and confidence. As you can see our riders are working hard and it’s just pre-season! We’re excited to see our student riders getting time on their bike and it’s always fun getting to ride together. It’s a great day to be a Huskie! 💙

Pre-season is off to a great start! We tackled some trail work on our local trail. In the spring the grass grows so high we can’t see the trail plus there’s always a little soil erosion so kids and parents who could make the trail work day showed up and got to work!

We had 22 people show up during the busy end of May crazy and put time into clearing the trail so it was safe to ride. In addition to a trail work day, we had several coaches spend hours over the last few weeks volunteering their time to w**d whack, mow and dig the trail back into shape for the season. We are so grateful!

This week we were excited to finally get to hit the trail as a team! We have had an increase in our number of riders , almost double and many first time, first year riders. This is where our local trail is ideal - it allows us to have less busy trails to introduce & work on necessary skills to our newer riders. It also gives us opportunity to send our experience riders on multiple laps. We saw alot of courage as new riders took to climbing, cornering and navigating skills on a new to them trail. We heard lots of encouragement to fellow teammates throughout the ride and lots of smiles and confidence found as our riders discovered they are stronger and more capable than they realize.

Tonight was evident that we were all excited to be out on our bikes. We’re excited to be getting on our bikes together as a team and before long, tackling our in-season practices and race weekends!

Great job Huskies! Keep up the great work!

The Emmett Huskies MTB kicked off our first pre season practice with an informative meeting and skills training this week. We had several missing athletes due to spring sports wrap up conflicts but all in all had a great turn out.
As we enter into preseason NICA allows each team several practices before our official practice season begins in July. Races begin in August so we’re excited to get together as a team & begin training together!
After a brief informative meeting going over safety, trail etiquette & what to expect as we hit the trails, we broke into a couple groups to tackle bike skills. It’s always good to start the season off seeing where our riders are with their skills and experience before hitting the trails. Our first practice we set up a skills training course to go over bike body separation, braking, light hands, heavy feet on the bike and overall balance on the bike. Coaches led the student athletes through a series of skills like ‘low, look lean’ demonstrating how to come through a corner and even had some handmade features to practice rolling bikes over hills or rocky terrain. Skills training helps prepare us for hitting the trails - which we hope to do next week here in town.
We’re looking forward to a great mountain bike season and helping our student athletes have fun while developing strong mind, bodies, character and community. 💙
Go Huskies! 🐾🚵‍♂️🚵‍♀️

Jug Mountain kicked off with our very own Huskie rider Vraina leading us all in the national athem 🇺🇸on her trombone
Jug is always a crowd favorite with flowy climbs and downhills while riding through a boulder and some technical berms.
Our riders tackled a minimum of about 5 1/2 miles
(for 1 lap) and 800 ft elevation.
Our middle school riders complete 1 lap of the course while our high school riders complete 2.
We had 1 middle school rider finish 2nd in his heat and several top 10 or 15 finishes for both middle school & high school. It’s always fun to get a podium finish but it’s also exciting to see how many of our riders improve through the season with faster times or shedding 10 minutes off of last year’s time. All of our riders are tackling great goals of getting more confident in their skills and improving their speed and endurance.
We all had fun riding the course & watching our student athletes ride the course. Jug offers endless beauty & a relaxed camp and pitzone setting near the start & finish. It’s always bittersweet as we know Jug means our season is nearing the end.
Next up… we’re local @ Bogus Basin this Saturday (Oct 4) for our FINAL race of the season.
Our riders take on State where all teams will be coming from near & far to compete. Last year there were over 1200 riders competing! Our Middle School riders start at 9 am, then High School take to the course by 10:30/11 - it’sa great race to come & cheer on our Huskies ! 💙💙 Hope to see you there!

Small town pride at its best! 2025 Homecoming Parade was a success!
Our Emmett MTB Team riding in the Homecoming parade and getting to see our lil town show up in support of all our students was a pretty special day. Seeing our town’s streets lined with students, teachers, families and community members reminds us what an amazing community we live in. This community really knows how to show support for our kids.
Grateful doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel. What a fun day, loved hearing all the cheers from the community especially when our student riders showed off their bike skills (wheelies were always a big hit!) Thanks for all the love & support Huskie Nation 💙
We are Huskie Strong 💪 and proud of it 🐾

Our Huskies continue to hit the trails each week to help develop on the bike skills, build strength & endurance and simply just have fun! We love hitting the trails together both locally and over the hill.
If you see us out on the road please give us a wave 👋 and as always thank you for sharing the road and helping us teach road safety & encourage getting more kids on bikes!
We appreciate your support! 💙
