More than 40 girls and a handful of boys came to wrestle this morning. We raised over $700 for Monica and the kids with the money that everyone donated and gave for the clinic!!!!!!

Lots of smiles! Lots of knowledge... Buena Vista Womens Wrestling did a fantastic job with all the kids, who ranged from 5 yrs old to 18 yrs old.

Look for the posts from Iowa Girls Wrestling Podcast to see more about what today was all about!

Iowa Time Machine ⏰: On April 10, 1979, Jeff Kerber from Emmetsburg High School announced his commitment to the University of Iowa Hawkeyes. As only the second prep athlete to claim four consecutive state titles and the first to ever go undefeated in the quest over four years, Kerber embodied rising excellence in a sport central to Iowa’s identity.

Iowa wrestling in the 1970s pulsed with intensity, fueled by icons like Dan Gable, whose 1972 Olympic gold medal set an unmatched standard. Gable's undefeated high school career and three state titles paved the way, yet no one had matched four until Bob Steenlage of Britt captured titles from 1959 to 1962. Seventeen years passed before Kerber broke through, wrestling in Class 2A for Emmetsburg. Kerber sealed his senior year dominance at the 1979 state tournament in early March, pinning Todd Fey of Central DeWitt in the 126-pound final for his fourth straight crown. His weights progressed: 98 pounds in 1976 (31-0), 112 in 1977 (31-0), 119 in 1978 (32-0), and 126 in 1979 (32-0), yielding a flawless 126-0 career record and the first undefeated four-time champion.

Just weeks later, on April 10, he pledged to Iowa, drawn by coach Dan Gable's program amid fierce Big Ten rivalries. Kerber thrived at Iowa, earning three-time All-American honors from 1982 to 1984, placing sixth at 134 pounds in 1982 alongside stars like the Zalesky brothers. He contributed to the Hawkeyes' 1983 NCAA team title.

Inducted into the Iowa Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2007 and recognized by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, his influence endures. His son Justin Kerber later wrestled at Cornell, extending the family legacy into the 21st century.
