Emlenton Community Cat Care Project

Emlenton Community Cat Care Project Helping the feral and community cats of Emlenton with trap, neuter, return and rescue/adoption.

Assisting residents in the community who own unfixed cats and kittens by securing low cost spay/neuter appointments and helping with transportion(when able).

Our focus has been on cats who are unsocialized and unable to be handled... the cats who need TNR because traditional adoption simply isn't an option for them. ๐Ÿซค

But have you ever stopped to wonder ๐Ÿค” where all of these cats came from in the first place?

The truth is, many of them started out as someoneโ€™s friendly pet. They were lost. Abandoned. Left behind. ๐Ÿ’” Or simply allowed to reproduce because they weren't spayed or neutered.

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿฝ And that is where we have an opportunity to make a difference.

If every cat and kitten were spayed or neutered before becoming part of a family, we could prevent countless unwanted litters from ever being born. Fewer unwanted kittens means fewer cats growing up without homes, fewer cats ending up on the streets, and ultimately fewer unfriendly cats needing TNR.

TNR is an incredibly important part of the solution, but ๐—ฝ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป is just as important.

Every time you spay or neuter a cat, you're not only changing that cat's future. You may also be preventing generations of cats from ever having to face life without a home.

Grub and Felix are looking for their loving, indoor home together. Both were rescued at different times. Grub from Big Bend Road and Felix from the Emlenton Truck Plaza๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป!

We donโ€™t know their stories or exact ages because they just showed up but we are estimating that Grub is around 3 years old and Felix around 4 years old.

Grub, short for Grubby, because she was such a mess when she showed up at a house, has turned into a beautiful young lady๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜ป! She is a beautiful, long haired, grey and white girl who is friendly, fixed, vaccinated, dewormed, flea treated and has a laid back personality!

Felix, a handsome, long haired, black boy, was a found at the Emlenton Truck Plaza a while ago and is friendly, fixed, vaccinated, flea treated, dewormed and also has a laid back personality. He is a big boy, probably weighing in around 16 pounds ๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿฅฐ!

These 2 have become buddies but the other cats in the house continue to bully and attack them at times. The wonderful woman who rescued them has been trying multiple things over the few months to try and get everyone to get along. Grub and Felix are now living together in a bedroom but this isnโ€™t ideal long term. She would love to see them get the attention and love they truly deserve๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜ป!

As with all adoptions, if we donโ€™t know you or know someone who knows you, we have an adoption application that must be filled out and approved.

Please reach out if you are interested in adopting Grub and Felix๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜ปโค๏ธ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜ปโค๏ธ!โ€™

๐ŸŒพ๐Ÿพ Straw is one of the most important things you can put inside an outdoor cat shelter.

As summer winds down, now is the time to start gathering your winter suppliesโ€”not when the first freezing night arrives.

Straw is an excellent insulator because it stays relatively dry and allows cats to burrow down into it for warmth. But not all straw is the same:

๐ŸŒพ Wheat straw is an excellent choice and is commonly recommended for outdoor cat shelters.
๐ŸŒพ Barley straw can also work well.
โŒ Hay is NOT straw. Hay is food for animals and can retain moisture, mold, and attract pests.
โŒ Avoid blankets, towels, and fabric bedding outdoors. They can absorb moisture and become cold and damp.

How much straw? Fill the shelter about 2/3 full with enough for the cat to burrow into, but keeping it away from the entrance so it doesn't block access. Check it regularly and replace it if it becomes damp, dirty, or compressed.

You can usually find straw at farm-supply stores, feed stores, garden centers, and some hardware stores. Local farmers may also sell or give away small quantities, especially as fall approaches.

And please don't wait! โค๏ธ Straw can become harder to find once everyone is scrambling to prepare for winter.

Start gathering your supplies now. Build or repair those shelters, find a dry place to store your straw, and make sure the cats you care for have a warm, dry refuge before the temperatures drop.

Yesterday morning, a friendly, unfixed, Siamese cat, who had been hanging between Allegheny Grille and Foxburg Inn in Foxburg for a couple of weeks, was taken to Precious Paws. She was scanned for a microchip and none was found. Efforts to find her owner came up empty.

She was given a vet check, spayed, vaccinated, dewormed and flea treated.

She was adopted by an employee and will now have a loving, indoor, furever home in Emlenton ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿปโค๏ธ!

To date, 485 cats and kittens have been helped with the Emlenton Community Cat TNR and Rescue Project๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿปโค๏ธ!
