River Report Akers to Pulltite and Alley to Eminence. On Thursday the River Safety Team paddled Akers to Pulltite and we are happy to report that this section remains very floatable with adequate water levels and options to stay clear of obstacles in each chute. We put in at 10:00 am and we only encountered five people during our paddle. Friday morning we put in at Alley above the bridge at 7:00 am. and arrived in Eminence at 9:30. We did not see any other paddlers on this section. Birding was excellent! We saw about a dozen Great Blue Herons and two Bald Eagles flew over us at Horse Camp. One Eagle was clutching a fish. Adequate water level and just enough room to avoid obstacles with a little extra caution approaching narrow chutes on this section. Plenty of downed trees lined the riverbank but they are easy to avoid. I would recommend an early morning start if you want to avoid the summer crowds. We had a great time on both sections. Let’s Paddle!

Thursday River Report, Cedar Grove to Akers. The river gauge at Akers reported the level at just under 1 ft. Above Welch Spring we were able to find enough water to paddle through every chute. No walking required. The tree that was blocking the river just below Welch has been cut out by park staff providing clear passage for paddlers. This section continues to provide visitors a quality experience on the river with a variety of features and opportunities for recreation. Enjoy!

AND …. To top off an otherwise orbital career, we understand that Tom Akers was a
Ozark National Scenic Riverways Ranger at Alley Spring at some point.
Local boy does good. We are proud of our folks!

It’s a great day to hang your hat at Baptist Camp on the Upper Current River.

River Report: The Akers to Pulltite section of the Current River provides plenty of water and clear passage through most channels. A couple of chutes require extra caution between Cave Spring and Pulltite. We enjoyed good company with ORF members from Colorado Springs and St. Louis. ORF River Guides are available for safety instruction and to help make the most of your experience on the river. Let us know how we can help. Let’s Paddle!

River Report Pulltite to Round Spring on the Current River. The chute in this video has caused some concern for floaters on this section. It is located downstream from Sinking Creek. There is plenty of room to line or walk your boat downstream on river right. It is possible to negotiate if you approach it as far right as possible and make use of the eddy near the top of the chute. Our River Guide makes it look easy but caution should be used. The rest of this section provides a clear channel that is relatively clear of obstacles. There is one other chute that although clear, requires a little extra caution. It is located just above Sinking Creek. Be safe and walk around obstacles in chutes if you have any doubts.
