We ask that this be a positive page. We are asking for volunteers to keep the doors open. If you have had a bad experience by all means address it with the Assistant Director when it happens. If the Assistant Director is the problem, then go to the Director and vice versa, but please do not come to the page or any of our posts and bash us as it scares off potential volunteers. Feel free to say whatever you wish on your personal page, reach out via FB messenger, or one of the two phone numbers listed on the page and we will be happy to discuss your concerns.
Being direct and truthful helps cut through the noise, even if it sometimes gets mistaken for being rude.
When I post that we need help, I'm often told, "If you had posted earlier," or "I have to babysit," or "I have a doctor's appointment." I'm not talking about a one-time need. We've been open for 14 years, and our schedule hasn't changed. We need volunteers every week on the same days and at the same times:
• Monday: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
• Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
• Thursday: 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
The need is constant. The challenge is finding people willing to commit.
There are more than 16,000 people in Henry County, yet our work is carried by only a handful of volunteers. If you care about helping families in need, making sure children don't go hungry while school is out, and supporting food assistance in our community, then please consider helping.
There are 52 weeks in a year. That's 156 days we need volunteers. I know no one is busy every single one of those days.
Some people have suggested evening hours. We've tried that twice, and unfortunately, we still couldn't find enough people willing to commit regularly. After working all day, our current volunteers aren't eager to spend their evenings here as well.
The truth is simple: We need help.
Not next month. Not when it's convenient. We I need people who are willing to step up and serve their community now.
If you've ever thought about volunteering, this is your sign. We need you.
