Hello J-Sei family and friends! Come join us for J-Sei’s next Author talk with special guests Naomi Hirahara and Karen Tei Yamash*ta . With new works to share, they will join in conversation on what inspires the writing, what comes from our shared histories, what transpires through the process, and what remains to be told. The event will feature two new books: “Crown City” by Naomi Hirahara, and “Questions 27 & 28” by Karen Tei Yamash*ta. It will take place both in person at J-Sei and online over Zoom from 5:00pm-6:30pm this coming Friday (June 19th).

Hello J-Sei friends and family. QWOCMAP - Q***r Women of Color Media Arts Project's 2026 Film Festival is just one week away (Friday, June 12th-Sunday, June 14th)! Hi J-Sei community members! As you may know, J-Sei is partnering with QWOCMAP - Q***r Women of Color Media Arts Project for their annual Q***r Women of Color festival (Friday, June 12th-Sunday, June 14th). We are specifically sponsoring the closing programs on Sunday, June 14th from 7:00pm-10:00pm PST. It is called “Q***r Asian Spirit”, and it will be a series of six short films that ask what it means to carry a history forward and make it yours. The screening will be held at the Presidio Theater in San Francisco, Ca. Please see a more detailed description of closing night and the featured films in the images attached.

Hello J-Sei friends and family! A couple of our community organizations San Francisco JACL, and Japantown Rainbow Coalition are having their 05th annual flag raising and potluck in honor of Pride month. Please see the images below for more details, and don’t forget to RSVP for *this Saturday (June 06th)*. The flag raising will take place at 2:00pm, and the potluck will be from 4:00pm-6:30pm at The Center. In a bonus May episode of Hibiku Kotoba, food writer and journalist Soleil Ho joins Kathleen. Coming to the Bay Area in 2019, Soleil was the restaurant and food critic of SF Chronicle during the pandemic and is a co-founder of the worker-owned independent news outlet, Coyote Media Collective. They share their story on how they became a food writer after working in the restaurant industry for a decade, on what it's like writing a cookbook (plus a great snippet of what kind of cookbook Soleil would like to write), and why independent journalism is and always will be important.

Hi J-Sei friends and family! Have you heard the news? J-Sei is a proud community partner of QWOCMAP - Q***r Women of Color Media Arts Project's upcoming 22nd Annual Q***r Women of Color Film Festival (QWOCFF for short). The festival itself will run from *Friday, June 14th-Sunday, June 16th*. We will be a community partner for one of their closing night programs, "Q***r Asian Spirit" on Sunday, June 16th from 7:00pm-10:00pm PST. It will be held at the Presidio Theater in San Francisco, Ca. Read more about the festival and closing night in the attached images, and save the date.

About the festival in general: 34 films across seven curated screenings at San Francisco's historic Presidio Theatre. Filmmaker Q&As, the QWOCFF Glambot, community celebrations, and our 25th Anniversary Reception. Every screening is fully accessible with open captions, audio description, and ASL interpretation.
