Located in Elyria, Ohio, the West by the River Historic District encompasses parts of West Avenue, Middle Avenue, 3rd Street, 4th Street, 5th Street, Barres and Holly Lane. On February 6, 1989, the City of Elyria designated the 'West Avenue Historic District', which is also known under the more well known name, 'West by the River Historic District'. The neighborhood includes excellent intact examp

les of a wide variety of architecture styles popular during the mid-19th to mid-20th century including Greek Revival/Italianate, Italian Villa, Italianate, Second Empire, Shingle Style, Queen Anne, Craftsman, Colonial Revival, and Mediterranean Revival.
