Located in Elyria, Ohio, the West by the River Historic District encompasses parts of West Avenue, Middle Avenue, 3rd Street, 4th Street, 5th Street, Barres and Holly Lane. On February 6, 1989, the City of Elyria designated the 'West Avenue Historic District', which is also known under the more well known name, 'West by the River Historic District'. The neighborhood includes excellent intact examples of a wide variety of architecture styles popular during the mid-19th to mid-20th century including Greek Revival/Italianate, Italian Villa, Italianate, Second Empire, Shingle Style, Queen Anne, Craftsman, Colonial Revival, and Mediterranean Revival.

I took photos today but I am not done.
Completed:
-the river-side of West and West between 3rd and 4th.
-3rd st
-Holly Lane
-north side of 4th St
-Middle Ave
To be completed tomorrow due to rain on Sunday:
The remainder of West, south-side of 4th, Barres Lane, and 5th.
(Photos probably won’t be posted on the website until December/January. Photo editing and uploading take too much time for this busy lady during the school term.)

Residents of WBTR:

Between Thursday Oct 8th and Sunday Oct 11th, I will be going around WBTR to take new frontage pictures of all the properties to update the WBTR website. The last time we took pics was 2022. I find the light in October makes the houses look especially lovely and I’m on Fall Break from school those days, so it works out nicely. I wanted to give everyone fair warning so you can have your yards, porches, etc looking nice for the pics!

Join us for the West by the River potluck picnic on July 19th! Bring a side dish or dessert and meet with your neighbors and discuss community issues. Board/member meeting at 4PM, and picnic at 5PM at 503 West Ave.
