With heavy hearts, we’re sharing that the Heart of Rotary Weekend Foundation Dinner, originally planned for October 23, has been cancelled.

After careful consideration, the planning committee made the difficult call based on registration numbers. We’re grateful to everyone who had already committed to join us, and especially to our keynote speaker, Dr. Isabel C. Scarinci, whose story as a polio survivor and global health champion we were honored to share.

The good news: World Polio Day isn’t cancelled. We still hope you’ll join us for the Community Peace Summit on Saturday October 24 at LCCC’s Spitzer Conference Center. Register at rotarydistrict6600.org/peace. Rotary’s work to end polio doesn’t pause, and neither will we.

Thank you for your patience and your continued support. 💙

We had the pleasure of welcoming Elyria Catholic High School senior Noah Hanlon as the student guest at our weekly meeting!

Somehow, Noah finds time to sleep—we’re not quite sure how! Between his many activities, academics, volunteer service, and sports, his schedule is certainly full.

It was a pleasure getting to know Noah and hearing about his accomplishments and aspirations. We have a feeling there’s a lot to look forward to from this future leader! 👏

He is pictured here with ECHS president Annie Heidersbach and Assistant District Governor/Elyria Rotarian Steve Hosler.

It is wonderful when Elyria Rotarians and friends and neighbors can come together to make a project happen!

The new swing set for families of Elyria YWCA is completed and ready for hours of fun!

A special thanks to Steve, Rich, and Christa for championing the project. 👏

Here at Elyria Rotary, we’ve heard some feedback about this year’s Fried Ice Cream at the Apple Festival, particularly from a few folks who felt theirs was underdone. We hear you, and we appreciate you letting us know.

We’re only aware of a couple of returns related to cooking, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗱𝗼, 𝘄𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺. We want everyone who supports Elyria Rotary to have a good experience — and a good Fried Ice Cream!

One thing that makes this event special — and challenging — is that 𝗶𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿-𝗿𝘂𝗻. Our members and community volunteers give their time to make it happen. We’re not professional chefs 👨‍🍳👩‍🍳, but we take pride in what we do and recognize that we can improve the consistency and quality of the product.

As we look ahead to next year, we’ll be reviewing the batter, frying times, and cooking process and looking for ways to improve quality control. 📋

Most importantly, we hope people remember that 𝟭𝟬𝟬% 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗜𝗰𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗴𝗼 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗹𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀, 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁. 🎓📚No one is paid, and no one is getting rich. It’s a lot of hard work by volunteers who care about Elyria and want to give back. 🫶

Thank you to everyone who came out, supported us, and the community, and shared your feedback. We’re grateful for your support — and we’ll work to make next year’s Fried Ice Cream even better! 🍎
