Seeing a copy of Black Beauty always makes me want to cry, not just because the story is sometimes sad, but because it's proof that a book can change the world.

Anna Sewell's book spurred legislation and energized the animal welfare movement. Victorian era horses lived better lives, and humane societies sprung up. All by emphasizing that animals have thoughts, and hearts, and memories. When I think of Contented Critters, and all the people who fight for animals, think of Anna Sewell!

Hi, community! We could really use some book donations! Our Little Free Library was hopping over the summer and more books left than got returned or exchanged.

Taking and not exchanging is very much a part of the rules as it's important people have books to read, but sometimes that leaves us ... empty, particularly of hardcovers and newer titles.

If you do donate during business hours please bring them in so I can stamp them.

Thank you! (You all have been so generous over the years that we've previously been able to hold books in reserve to restock, even share with other, LFLs.)

We're spruced up for the season! Come on by!

In case you're not familiar, a Little Free Library is pretty casual.

You can:

*Borrow a book, and return it.

*You can donate a book, and take a book.

*You can take a book from here, and donate it to another LFL.

*You can take a book, keep it, and not worry if you have nothing to donate.

Larger donations are always welcome. Right now, we could use some kids books.

I also periodically clean it out of books that aren't moving, but are still good books, and then I take them to other LFLs in town and neighboring areas.

PS: A Boy Called Bat looks adorable, and features a boy on the autism spectrum. We have several Book of the Month selections from the last year.

Our Little Free Library is packed! We just got in a nice donation that included several Alice Hoffman books! The Hacienda is still available, and still an excellent haunted house/gothic story!
